Over the first few months of the year, the business situation of female leaders of listed enterprises has recorded many mixed developments.
VietJet Air, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao: Profits skyrocketed 212%
In the first three months of this year, after a difficult and gloomy 2023, the aviation industry in general received many positive signals of recovery, especially during the two major holidays (Lunar New Year and the 5-day holiday from April 30th to May 1st), which led to a surge in travel and tourism demand. As a result, VietJet Air's (VJC, HOSE) net revenue increased by 37% year-on-year, reaching VND 17,792 billion.
In addition, a 21% reduction in corporate income tax expenses helped VJC significantly increase its after-tax profit by 212% compared to the same period last year, reaching VND 539.1 billion.
Besides being the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of VietJet Air, she is also the Permanent Vice Chairwoman of HDBank (HDB, HOSE). Similar to VJC, HDB recorded positive growth in the first quarter, with after-tax profit increasing by nearly 50% compared to the same period last year.
However, following the general trend in the banking industry, non-performing loans at HDB also increased in the past quarter, reaching 2.2%, up 0.4% compared to the end of last year, forcing HDB to increase its provisions for credit risk.
Vinh Hoan Corporation, Chairwoman Truong Thi Le Khanh: Revenue increased, profit still decreased
Last quarter, "catfish queen" Truong Thi Le Khanh and Vinh Hoan (VHC, HOSE) earned VND 2,856 billion, a 28.5% increase compared to the same period last year, but due to a sharp 41% increase in cost of goods sold, after-tax profit decreased by 16.2%, falling to VND 189 billion.
The parent company's after-tax profit fell to approximately VND 170 billion, a decrease of 22.5% compared to Q1 2023. Explaining the continued decline in profit in Q1 2024 despite steady revenue growth, VHC stated that the main reason was the decrease in the selling price of pangasius products.

According to recent April business results, VHC's revenue reached VND 1,091 billion, and the cumulative revenue for the first four months of the year reached VND 3,902 billion. Of this, pangasius fish brought in the highest revenue with VND 635 billion (up 22%), while mixed products and rice-based products increased by 112% and 141% respectively.
Vingroup, Vice Chairman Pham Thu Huong: Net profit after tax increased by nearly 127% compared to the same period last year.
Ms. Pham Thu Huong is known as the wife of Vingroup Chairman, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, and also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the group.
Vingroup (VIC, HOSE) experienced its first quarter with net revenue reaching VND 21,738.5 billion, a sharp decrease of 44.5% compared to the same period last year (VND 38,963.4 billion).
But thanks to that, financial revenue increased sharply by 88% over the same period, profit after tax reached 1,335 billion VND, up 126.6% over the same period.
At its 2024 annual general meeting, Vingroup approved this year's business plan with the goal of achieving net revenue of VND 200,000 billion and after-tax profit of VND 4,500 billion. Thus, after the first three months of the year, VIC has completed 10.9% of its net revenue target and 30% of its after-tax profit target for the whole year.
REE Electrical & Refrigeration, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Mai Thanh: Plans to issue 61.3 million shares.
In the first quarter of this year, Refrigeration and Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE, HOSE) recorded net revenue of nearly VND 1,837.5 billion, a decrease of 22.4% compared to the same period last year. The main reason is the sharp decline of 34% in revenue from electricity and water infrastructure, down to just over VND 1,026.3 billion.
Despite a slight 19.8% increase in financial income, expenses such as financial costs, selling expenses, and administrative expenses all decreased, but this was still not enough to help REE achieve positive profit growth, which declined by 48% to VND 548.9 billion.

REE stated that the decrease in electricity revenue was mainly due to the sharp decline in profits of its member and affiliated hydropower companies compared to the same period last year, including Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company and Thac Mo Hydropower Joint Stock Company, which led to a decrease in the company's overall profit.
Setting a full-year plan for 2024 with revenue of VND 10,588 billion and after-tax profit of VND 2,408 billion, after the first quarter, REE has completed 17.4% of its revenue target and 22.8% of its after-tax profit target.
In addition, REE plans to issue 61.3 million shares to complete the payment of dividends for 2023. After this issuance, the company's charter capital will increase by approximately 15%, to VND 4,710 billion.
PNJ Gold and Gemstones, President Cao Thi Ngoc Dung: Revenue increased sharply thanks to vibrant gold purchasing power
The sharp rise in gold prices from Q4 2023, extending into Q1 2024, helped Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ, HOSE) maintain profit growth for the second consecutive quarter, with profits increasing by 17% compared to Q4 2023.
Typically, revenue from the 24K (9999) gold channel increased by 66.3% compared to the same period last year. According to PNJ, the main factor is the active trading of this item, and PNJ has attracted many new customers to buy the company's 24K gold products. In addition, retail jewelry revenue in Q1/2024 increased by 12.1% compared to the same period.
As a result, net revenue in the first quarter increased sharply by 28.6% to VND 12,594 billion. However, due to a significant increase in selling expenses and administrative expenses, up 28.4% and 30.1% respectively compared to the same period last year, after-tax profit decreased slightly by 1.4%, reaching VND 737.8 billion.
Recently, PNJ announced its business results for the first four months of the year, achieving VND 16,049 billion in revenue and VND 915 billion in profit. This means PNJ has fulfilled 43.2% of its revenue target and 43.8% of its after-tax profit target for 2024.
