Affirming that the photo posted by the parent on social media was the lunch for the school on October 8, the leader of Phu Cat Primary School (Phu Xuan Ward, Hue City) said the photo did not fully reflect the meal because that day there was also pumpkin soup cooked with shrimp and a 110ml box of Milo milk.

That afternoon, 550 students had lunch at the boarding school, each meal cost 27,000 VND, of which 1,000 VND was deducted for fuel and 5,000 VND for milk, the main meal cost 21,000 VND. The school used 46kg of shrimp, 185,000 VND/kg, so the cost of shrimp alone for each student was more than 15,000 VND.

The leaders of Phu Cat Primary School affirmed that the school is very transparent in the boarding meals, not cutting corners. The menu that day had shrimp and squash soup with shrimp, 2 shrimp dishes were not reasonable. The school will learn from experience and adjust the way of building the menu to be more diverse.

On the morning of October 10, the school's Board of Directors invited the entire Parent-Teacher Association to an urgent meeting to discuss and clarify information about the boarding meals posted on social media. Parents responded positively, providing more complete photos of the meals.

Phu Cat Primary School requires the boarding department to review the menu process, food preparation and presentation, ensuring that students have enough nutrients, delicious food and food suitable for primary school age.

Previously, on October 9, a parent whose child was in grade 4 at Phu Cat Primary School posted a photo of the student's lunch on her personal Facebook page, reflecting on the "meager" meal consisting of only dried shrimp and boiled carrots.

After only 15 hours, the post received nearly 500 comments and dozens of shares. Many opinions said that the 27,000 VND meal did not ensure nutrition and aesthetics, and hoped the school would improve the portion size and preparation method to make it easier for students to eat.
