Sun Group approved to invest in Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project

Perspective of Phu Quoc International Airport.

The Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project will be invested in the form of direct business investment according to Resolution No. 01/2025/NQ-CP on investment in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport issued by the Government on June 1, 2025.

Specifically, based on the proposal from Sun Group and after the capacity assessment process, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province decided to choose this group as the investor of the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project.

Estimated investment capital for the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project is 21,998 billion VND, implemented in 2 phases: 2025 - 2027 and 2027 - 2030.

Speaking at the Investment Decision Awarding Ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee said: "These are important strategic projects, not only serving APEC 2027 but also playing a long-term role in shaping the development space, connection and integration of Phu Quoc with the world ."

Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee also affirmed that it will accompany the investor throughout the project implementation process, ensuring progress and quality in accordance with the Government's direction, aiming to put the project into operation in time to serve the APEC 2027 Conference.

According to Mr. Bui Thanh Trung, Chairman of Sun Group Southern Region, with experience in implementing transport infrastructure projects, Sun Group is committed to applying the highest standards of quality, progress and technology to create a modern, smart, environmentally friendly airport, worthy of being the international gateway of Phu Quoc pearl island.

“This project is not just a simple transport infrastructure, but also a new symbol, a push to help Phu Quoc break through to become an international ecological, resort, financial and creative center after APEC 2027. We understand that time is running out, only 18 months left to bring the project to the finish line, and this will be a consistent action commitment of Sun Group Corporation”, Mr. Bui Thanh Trung emphasized.

According to the approved plan, Phu Quoc International Airport has level 4E according to the classification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), allowing it to receive wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 747, 787 or Airbus A350.

The Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project has a total area of 1,050 hectares, increasing the port's capacity to 20 million passengers per year, 4.5 times the current capacity.

The runway infrastructure will be expanded with runway 1 and a new runway 2, 3,500 meters and 3,300 meters respectively, to meet the requirements of operating wide-body aircraft, increasing reception capacity and ensuring flight safety in all weather conditions. The parking system will be expanded to more than 100 positions, including 45 parking positions for wide-body aircraft combined with a modern telescopic system.

Phu Quoc International Airport is shaped as a new symbol of architecture and technology in the field of aviation infrastructure in Vietnam.

The airport's T2 passenger terminal was designed by CPG Singapore - an internationally renowned architectural firm, under the leadership of architect Steven Thor, Executive Vice President of CPG Consultants.

The terminal design is inspired by the image of the Phoenix, a bird symbolizing power and noble beauty. The project's distinctive highlight is the integration of the world's leading modern, intelligent operating technology system, such as remote check-in process, automatic baggage sorting, biometric recognition technology that helps reduce the check-in time to only 15-20 seconds/person.

In addition, the VIP terminal has also been newly invested in, ensuring the highest standards of security, protocol, and amenities, meeting the strict requirements of international events, including the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC 2027).

Recently, Sun Group has also been officially approved to establish Sun PhuQuoc Airways, connecting the "pearl island" with economic centers across the country and the world.

That is affirming the attention of the Party, Government and local leaders and the determination of the business community in enhancing Phu Quoc's capacity in organizing APEC 2027 and "giving wings", creating a solid launching pad to turn Phu Quoc into a tourism - economic center worthy of the region.
