Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang speaks at the discussion session.

On July 16, in New York - USA, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held an open discussion at the ministerial level with the theme "Multilateral cooperation for a more equitable, democratic and sustainable international order".

The meeting was chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (President of the UNSC in July 2024) with the participation and speeches of representatives of more than 50 UN member countries.

At the meeting, most countries emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral cooperation to respond to current multidimensional and complex global challenges that no country can solve on its own; at the same time, they emphasized international law and the UN Charter as a solid foundation for building a fair, democratic and sustainable world order.

Speaking at the discussion session, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that compliance with the law and the UN Charter, especially the principles of respecting the sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity of nations, not using or threatening to use force, and peacefully resolving disputes, are decisive for maintaining effective multilateral cooperation.

In addition, multilateral cooperation needs to put people at the center, respect and strive to realize the people's fundamental aspirations to live in peace, prosperity and social progress. In addition, strong reforms are needed to enhance the voice and representation of developing countries in multilateral institutions that have important impacts on the world's security, economic and social situations.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam strongly supports multilateralism and has made every effort to strengthen the multilateral system at the regional and global levels through active participation and promotion of initiatives within the framework of regional and international organizations of which Vietnam is a member, especially at ASEAN and the United Nations.

Vietnam has made important contributions to implementing common commitments in the fields of peace, security, sustainable development and promotion of human rights, first and foremost for the people, to work towards promoting a more peaceful, prosperous and equitable world.
