According to reports, on the afternoon of December 8th, during a STEM class (an educational activity integrating knowledge from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), TA, an 8th-grade student at Hong Bang Secondary School, was hit on the shoulder by an antenna (a device used for teaching) by the Technology teacher. After the class ended, TA went home and told her family that she was experiencing significant pain in her shoulder due to the teacher's "impact" during the STEM class.
Hong Bang Secondary School (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) is where the incident of an 8th-grade student being beaten by a teacher occurred.
Later, the student's family took him for a medical examination, which confirmed that he had fractured his scapula. However, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) stated that the information about the scapula fracture was only an initial assumption by the family, due to a misunderstanding of the doctor's diagnosis.
According to the hospital representative's explanation, TA was brought to the hospital with shoulder pain due to an impact. Therefore, after examination and X-ray, the doctor's initial diagnosis was "suspected fracture." This is completely different from concluding that the patient had a "fracture."
Currently, the principal of Hong Bang Secondary School, Mr. Tran Van Luyen, said that he has discussed with the student's family about measures to care for his health and assigned teachers to assist with his studies while he is temporarily absent. In addition, the school has proposed covering all medical expenses for the student. He stated that regardless of the cause of the incident, the teacher's actions were completely wrong. As the head of the school, he accepts responsibility for the incident and affirms that he will handle the matter strictly.
The Board of Directors of Hong Bang Secondary School requested the teacher who physically assaulted the student to write a report on the incident and removed him from teaching student A's class. Following the incident, the teacher submitted a report, admitting his fault and expressing deep remorse. Regarding student TA, the school will do its utmost to care for his studies, health, and psychological well-being after he returns to school.
