Incomplete joy
After the opening day of school this morning, September 5, following the students back to Ngoc Son fishing village, in Residential Group No. 5 (Phu Lien Ward, Hai Phong ), we saw all the difficulties and hardships of the students' families. There was no more joy on the opening day of school, everyone went about their own business, the students and their families cleaned up the rubble after the fire to soon stabilize their lives.

Ms. Dao Thi My, in the fishing village, confided: "In the early morning of August 31, my son and his wife went fishing, leaving their disabled grandson at home. At exactly 6 o'clock, seeing smoke rising from the upper floor of the house built of corrugated iron, my grandson immediately ran to my house. Seeing that, I called out to the neighbors to help put out the fire. But the fire still spread to 5 neighboring houses, burning all the furniture. After that, the fire police came to join in the fire fighting, and it was not until nearly 7 o'clock that the fire was completely extinguished"...
The fire in Ngoc Son fishing village burned down the property of the above households, fortunately everyone in the fishing village managed to escape. "Up until now, the life of the people in the fishing village has been difficult, now this fire has made it even more difficult. The whole family had just saved up to buy a new Vision motorbike and had not yet had time to ride it when the fire burned everything down, leaving only the frame", Mrs. My said while crying.
Ms. Bui Thi Hai, who lives next to Ms. My's family, was also heartbroken because the fire had destroyed all the furniture in the house. She was even more worried because she was about to pay the tuition fees for the new school year for her three children.

Ngoc Son fishing village currently has 26 households, mainly living in corrugated iron houses on the banks of Lach Tray River. According to some elderly people in Residential Group No. 5, since ancient times, there have been a number of fishing boat households in the locality, from the western part of Hai Phong, such as Thanh Ha, Ha Dong, Tu Ky (old)... During the day, they go fishing along the river banks, and at night they return to anchor in this area. Children are born and raised on boats. Every day, the children follow their parents to fish. Therefore, most children do not have the opportunity to go to school. The lives of the fishing boat people always face many difficulties...
Give love and share

The precarious life of the fishermen anchored in the area always worries the local authorities, especially when the weather is unpredictable and many children are illiterate. Therefore, a few years ago, some volunteer groups did not hesitate to teach the children here. The local authorities also helped and created favorable conditions for the children to study right at the old Ngoc Son ward headquarters (now Phu Lien ward).
Recently, local authorities have encouraged children of fishing households to go to school like their peers, and have regularly connected with agencies, units, and philanthropists to support these households to ensure social security.
On the morning of September 5, students of Ngoc Son Primary School arrived at school earlier than usual to attend the opening ceremony and took advantage of the early morning to support their classmates, the poor children in Ngoc Son fishing village.
Teacher Pham Thi Kim Oanh, Head of Class 3A3, Ngoc Son Primary School, shared: "Students in the class not only mobilized their parents to support poor friends in the fishing village, but also mobilized their grandparents and other relatives in the family. Some students even used the money given by relatives on September 2nd, or their own savings, to support their friends."

Principal of Ngoc Son Primary School Bui Thi Phi Nga said that over the years, the school has opened its doors to welcome students from the fishing village to study with all the love of teachers and the sharing of students in the whole school. For students with difficult circumstances, the school regularly mobilizes support and waives some contributions.
On holidays and Tet, the school also has gifts to encourage students to excel in their studies. On the opening day of the 2025-2026 school year, classes organized a fundraiser to raise nearly 90 million VND to support students in the fishing village affected by the fire... Representatives of the Board of Directors and the Parents' Association of the school visited and shared with the families of students who had just been affected by the fire.
Chief of Office of People's Council, People's Committee of Phu Lien Ward Nguyen Van Hinh informed that local leaders always pay special attention to the people of the fishing village. Recently, upon receiving news that there was an unfortunate fire in this area, local leaders promptly directed and coordinated with the fire prevention and fighting police to extinguish the fire, ensuring the safety and lives of the people...
With that care and sharing, students in Ngoc Son fishing village today, although not fully enjoying the joy of the first day of school, are still given more strength to overcome difficulties and actively compete to study well...
