According to the reporter's records at noon on February 9 (ie the 30th day of Tet), flower traders on some central streets of Can Tho City such as Hai Ba Trung (Ninh Kieu Wharf area), Hoang Van Thu, Nguyen Van Cu,... have cleaned up their stalls and returned the premises for people to enjoy the Spring Festival.
According to general assessment, this year's business situation is quite gloomy, fewer buyers, lower purchasing power while flowers are more beautiful than every year.
Having sold Tet flowers for 25 years on Hoang Van Thu Street, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thanh (born in 1969, Binh Thuy District) said: "It's not true to say that he lost money, but it's also not true to say that he won money, because the profits from selling all offset the costs of 3 months of care and more than a week of selling flowers all night long.
Luckily, my family's flower shipment was purchased in large quantities by businesses and agencies, otherwise I would have cried a lot."
It is known that initially, his family's flowers were sold for 250 thousand VND/pair, but near the end before clearing the shop, he sold a pair of marigolds for only 60 - 90 thousand VND.
Summarizing the 2024 Tet flower season with about 10 pairs left, Mr. Pham Quang Vinh ( Hau Giang ) said: "Today, I am selling off my goods at half the original price. I just hope to sell them all soon so I can go home to pick up my grandparents.
However, at this point, I don't expect much anymore. Bringing home a few pots is fine. The business is not too bad, but it won't be big for Tet."
Mr. Nguyen Van Truyen (a trader on Nguyen Van Cu Street) said: "I thought that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy would improve, but I didn't expect it to. The general situation is gloomy. Now we're home for Tet and just hope that next year we can do business again and have better business."
