Tim Cook goes to coffee shops twice a day in Hanoi

VnExpressVnExpress15/04/2024

After enjoying egg coffee in the morning, Apple CEO continued to a coffee shop on Hai Ba Trung street this afternoon to meet with Vietnamese content creators.

Trang Ta, co-founder of Hatchin Coffee, said Tim Cook came to the shop around 3pm on April 15. She had received a reservation two weeks ago through a third party to "organise an event for Apple". She did not know Tim Cook was there until this afternoon. Since the evening of April 14, the shop has announced that it has closed the indoor area on the second floor to serve the event.

Trang said she was surprised that the Apple team chose Hatchin for their date because the shop is small and more suitable for coffee chats than a technology event. Hatchin is about 100 square meters wide, renovated from the typical space of a Hanoi townhouse - deep and intricate. After being renovated, the shop has many open spaces, filled with light, green trees and natural materials. The design highlight of the shop is the old walls combined with a new, modern steel structure.

When receiving a table reservation request from Apple, Trang had to ask the other end of the line. Because Tim Cook was meeting with Vietnamese developers on the second floor, the space was rearranged neatly, removing tables and chairs.

"Some Apple employees said they used to come here and liked the coffee, I think that's why they chose it," said Trang, who wants to elevate Vietnamese coffee beans as well as bring many delicious coffee beans from around the world for Vietnamese people to enjoy.

Trang said that foreigners in Tim Cook's delegation mainly used Vietnamese coffee with two types of beans: Cau Dat Arabica and Lam Dong Fine Robusta. The market price of these two types of beans is about 700,000 VND and 500,000 VND per kilogram, respectively.

According to VnExpress , Tim Cook's group arrived first and sat scattered from the first floor to the second floor due to the small space of the cafe. The Apple CEO worked with developers in a closed room on the second floor for about 40 minutes. He did not drink coffee during the conversation but held a cup of coffee in his hand when he left.

After Tim Cook’s group left, the restaurant cleaned up and closed early at 8pm instead of the usual 10pm. That same morning, Tim Cook had egg coffee at a restaurant on Hang Be Street with singer My Linh and her daughter for about 25 minutes.

Tim Cook arrived in Hanoi on the morning of April 15, meeting with Vietnamese content creators and programmers, as Apple announced an increased commitment to Vietnam, increased payments to suppliers, and new progress in an initiative to support clean water for local schools.
