Seminar on the ecosystem of utilizing FTAs, including the EVFTA Agreement in the Leather and Footwear sector in Hai Phong
(Haiphong.gov.vn) - The city's Department of Industry and Trade has just coordinated with the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy - Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize a " Direct discussion with business leaders in provinces and cities about the ecosystem of taking advantage of FTAs, including the EVFTA Agreement in the leather and footwear sector in Hai Phong ".
Attending the seminar were Director of the City Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Van Thanh; representatives of the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy, Ministry of Industry and Trade; leaders of the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association; Departments, Boards and sectors of the city; Associations, businesses and experts in the field of leather and footwear.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of the city Nguyen Cong Han emphasized that the footwear industry of Hai Phong is one of the traditional industries identified as a key product group, with an average annual growth rate of 10% - 15%. Hai Phong used to be considered the capital of the footwear industry, always pioneering and leading the country in developing the footwear industry, as well as calling for FDI investment with footwear production complexes and products re-established by foreign investment factors...
The Deputy Director of the City Department of Industry and Trade said that currently, the main export markets for leather and footwear in Hai Phong are Europe, China, Japan, Korea, Australia... According to statistics from the issuance of Certificates of Origin of preferential goods by the Department of Industry and Trade of Hai Phong, in the first 8 months of 2024, the total export turnover of footwear to markets with FTAs of enterprises in the city and some neighboring provinces increased by 8% over the same period. In addition, some markets have a growth rate of over 10% such as: Europe (13%), Korea (13%), ASEAN (17%), Hong Kong (27%)... However, the leather and footwear industry is still facing many difficulties and limitations, so this Seminar program will be a premise to build a sustainable development ecosystem for the leather and footwear industry, making good use of the FTAs that are being and will be implemented.
This is also an opportunity for representatives of central and local state management agencies, the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association and leaders of enterprises/organizations operating in the leather and footwear sector to share about the main existing problems of the leather and footwear industry; objectives, connection methods, roles, benefits of participating parties and the operation method of the ecosystem supporting enterprises to take advantage of FTAs (hereinafter referred to as the Ecosystem to take advantage of FTAs); participation criteria, difficulties in building an Ecosystem to take advantage of FTAs; roadmap and steps to build an Ecosystem to take advantage of FTAs.../.
