Can Tho City: Focus on removing difficulties for the industrial and construction sectors to increase economic growth

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City has just directed to focus on removing difficulties for the industrial and construction sectors... to contribute to the city's economic growth in the last months of the year.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen requested departments and branches to focus on removing difficulties for the industrial and construction sectors to contribute to the city's economic growth.

On October 16, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Truong Canh Tuyen chaired a meeting with leaders of departments and branches on the growth scenario for the third quarter, the first 9 months of 2025 and the socio-economic development plan for the last 3 months of the year.

The Department of Finance reported the results of growth of the total product in the area (GRDP), accordingly, the city's growth in the third quarter reached 7.2% (the third quarter scenario is more than 11%), the cumulative growth in the first 9 months reached more than 7.3% (the 9-month scenario in 2025 is more than 9%).

Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector reached more than 4.5% (scenario over 3.4%); the industry and construction sector reached 8.51% (scenario over 15%); the service sector reached more than 8.4% (scenario nearly 14%).

Departments and branches focus on supporting businesses, especially infrastructure investment projects being invested in the city.

Regarding the economic scale (current GRDP), the city reached 80,994 billion VND; the accumulated 9 months reached 224,677 billion VND (about 21,224 billion VND higher than the same period), reaching more than 71.8% of the whole year scenario (312,621 billion VND).

Regarding budget revenue and expenditure, the total state budget revenue according to the estimate assigned by the Government up to September 30, 2025 was VND 19,116 billion, reaching more than 77.2% of the estimate assigned by the Central Government and more than 72.5% of the estimate assigned by the City People's Council, reaching more than 92.5% of the 9-month scenario.

However, total local budget balance expenditure was 38,265 billion VND (exceeding 18.3% compared to the 9-month scenario); of which, total development investment expenditure was 18,704 billion VND but regular expenditure was 19,561 billion VND.

Departments and branches need to pay attention to social housing projects, problems with land allocation, investment expiration... need to be urgently resolved to soon hand over land to investors for construction.

The leaders of the Department of Finance informed that, related to the 9-month tax exemption policy, the city's revenue decreased by 1,228 billion VND, estimated at 1,680 billion VND for the whole year. The extended value added tax still has to be paid by 522 billion VND;

A bright spot in the economic picture of the first 9 months of the year in the city is when the total investment capital in the area is estimated at more than 63,921 billion VND, an increase of more than 16.7% over the same period, exceeding more than 3% compared to the 9-month scenario and reaching 72.5% of the yearly scenario.

In addition, in the first 9 months of the year, the city had 3,326 newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of more than 17,552 billion VND, an increase of more than 40.6% in the number of enterprises and an increase of nearly 4% in capital compared to the same period. However, since the beginning of the year, 318 enterprises have voluntarily dissolved and 1,141 enterprises have registered to temporarily suspend business.

Since the beginning of the year, the city has attracted 19 new investment projects, including one foreign direct investment (FDI) project with a capital of 100 million USD and 18 domestic investment projects with a total registered investment capital of more than 19,000 billion VND.

Industrial clusters in Can Tho city are contributing to the economic and social development of the locality and provinces in the Mekong Delta region.

Currently, the city has 124 FDI projects with a total registered investment capital of about 7,451.8 million USD (46 projects in industrial parks; 78 projects outside industrial parks); there are 1,028 domestic investment projects with investment registration with a total investment capital of more than 450,330 billion VND.

To achieve the economic growth scenario in 2025, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen requested departments and branches to focus on reviewing and resolving outstanding tasks in the first 9 months of the year.

Specifically, for the industrial and construction sectors, the departments and branches focus on removing difficulties and obstacles in infrastructure at industrial parks, including VSIP industrial parks and Aeon and GO supermarket projects, social housing and commercial projects, etc.; Especially, 19/51 projects are still stuck, how have they been resolved so far? Once the difficulties are removed for businesses, investment units, and operating businesses, jobs will be created, the city will collect taxes, land use fees, etc.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also mentioned the auction of 18 land plots, which is an easy task, contributing to increasing the city's budget and avoiding waste of land resources, but up to now, the auction has not been organized?

In the field of agriculture, forestry and fishery, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen requested relevant departments and branches to review statistical work closely with reality; focus on promoting green agriculture, especially the project of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice; projects on aquaculture, processing and exporting seafood, because these are industries that bring high value to the city.
