After a few minutes of scattered rain this morning, Ho Chi Minh City continues to experience intense sunshine with temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is expected to last until the end of the week.
On April 26th, after scattered light rain in some districts and communes of Ho Chi Minh City this morning, many people thought the heat would subside. However, by noon the same day, the oppressive heat continued across a wide area.
According to observations by a Dan Tri reporter, at around 6:30 AM on the same day, rain fell in some areas of District 12, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Binh Thanh… and Thu Duc City. The rain lasted for about 5 minutes, in some places less than 1 minute.

Mr. Khanh (a resident of Binh Thanh District) said he was surprised this morning by the rain after many days of intense heat. When the rain started, he quickly gathered up the clothes that were drying out.
"I was gathering my things when the rain stopped. It only lasted less than a minute. After the rain, the sun came out again, showing no signs of cooling down," said Khanh.
At the same time, in some areas of District 12, the rain lasted longer (about 5 minutes). Many people going to work in the morning didn't have time to put on their raincoats before the rain stopped.
At 12 PM, the weather forecast on the phone showed a peak of 38 degrees Celsius. However, the actual outdoor temperature measured on the phone app exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, Head of the Southern Region Meteorological and Hydrological Station, said that this morning's rain had a small volume and a limited area.
The rain did not fall in the exact location where the measuring devices were placed, so there is no information on the amount of rain at the measuring stations. This afternoon, Ho Chi Minh City is still experiencing intense heat.
In Southern Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City today, the heat will increase slightly compared to the past 24 hours. Local thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening, mostly with light rainfall. Maximum temperatures will generally range from 37-39 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
"The heatwave is caused by a low-pressure trough with its axis passing through Northern Vietnam, connected to a persistently active hot low-pressure area. At higher altitudes, a subtropical high-pressure system with its axis passing through South Central Vietnam remains stable," Mr. Quyet said.
