Unit 6 of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Plant (CGN) Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant has completed the installation of its dome, marking a major milestone in the plant's construction. The completion marks the transition from the basic construction phase to the main equipment installation phase.
According to a VNA reporter in China, the dome of a nuclear power plant is an important part of the safety protection structure of the reaction area, helping to ensure the integrity and tightness of the structure.
The dome of Unit 6 has a rainbow-shaped shell structure, made of steel plates, angle steel ribs, rivets and other internal components, with a total weight of 275.1 tons and a diameter of 45 meters. After completing the fabrication at the production facility, the dome components were transported to the site and assembled piece by piece.
The Lufeng nuclear power project, implemented by China Guangdong Group, is expected to build a total of six nuclear power units with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts each.
To date, four units have been approved, while Unit 5 is now entering the main equipment installation phase, with key equipment such as the reactor pressure vessel and steam generator already installed. Unit 1 officially began construction on February 24, 2025, while preparations for Unit 2 are progressing as planned.
The Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant project, using the “Hualong No. 1” reactor technology, will contribute to the development of China’s clean and sustainable energy sources, ensuring the country’s goal of reducing carbon emissions in the future./.
