Rushing to shore, busy consuming seafood before the storm

In response to the forecast, Nghe An fishing ports such as Cua Lo, Lach Quen, Lach Con, Lach Van, Quynh Phuong… became bustling. Ships and boats docked one after another, bringing seafood from offshore for urgent consumption.
The atmosphere at the fishing port became urgent: people carried fish from the boat to the shore, traders quickly purchased and transported them by refrigerated trucks, while fish processing and drying factories also rushed to collect goods, completing the last batch of fish to put into storage before the storm arrived.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bon, owner of a small fishing boat in Tan Mai ward, said: “My boat went to sea last night, after a night of fishing, I caught about 25 kg of flash squid. With a selling price of 200,000 VND/kg, I earned nearly 5 million VND for two people. After selling, I brought the boat back to the dock, found a safe place to anchor, and waited for the storm to pass before going out to sea again.”

Meanwhile, the NA 97979 TS ship of Mr. Le Hoi Chuan (Tan Mai ward) has just completed a 7-day voyage in the Hoang Sa sea area. Hearing news of storm No. 5, his ship and 7 crew members immediately turned back to the mainland at night. On this trip, the ship caught more than 10 tons of anchovies, which are being purchased at 16,000 VND/kg, along with 5 tons of other types of fish, totaling nearly 200 million VND.
“We sell fish and repair the boat, replenish fuel and fishing gear so that we can go out to sea as soon as the storm passes,” Mr. Chuan shared.
At Nghi Thuy port, Cua Lo ward, boats continuously dock, bringing back many valuable seafood such as silver pomfret, mu fish, anchovy fish...
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, a fishing boat owner in Cua Lo ward, said: "Hearing the news of the storm, we informed the crew to collect fishing gear, bring seafood ashore, and take advantage of the opportunity to sell it to reduce damage, while ensuring safety for people and boats."

Not only big ships, but also small fishing boats fishing close to shore have proactively come to port. Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, a long-time fisherman in Cua Lo, said: “Thanks to the farmers’ association’s propaganda, we have a good grasp of the weather situation. When encountering a big storm, it is best to temporarily stop at sea to save our lives.”
Authorities urgently called on ships to come ashore.
Faced with the complex developments of storm No. 5, coastal localities in Nghe An are urgently deploying response measures. Lach Con Control Station (Hoang Mai town) and Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station continuously broadcast information and instructions to fishing boats.

For fishing vessels offshore, the border guards require them to quickly leave the danger zone and find safe shelter. For vessels that have returned to shore, they must quickly sell their products and anchor securely. Absolutely do not stay on the vessel when the storm hits.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Duong - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Mai Ward, said: "There are nearly 500 fishing boats in the area. We are currently coordinating with the border guards and authorities to call on all boats to return to safe shelters and count the total number."

In Cua Lo ward, Ms. Hoang Dinh Thuy Dung - President of the Farmers' Association, informed: "We have widely announced the situation of storm No. 5, mobilizing people to urgently bring their boats to port. For fishing boats near shore, officers came directly to propagate; for offshore fishing boats, the force contacted via walkie-talkie, continuously updated on Zalo and Facebook groups for fishermen to grasp. Up to this point, most boat owners have grasped information about the storm, many boats have docked and anchored safely".
Storm No. 5 is forecast to be very strong, with a wide range of influence, causing strong gusts of wind and dangerous water surges in the central coastal region. At fishing ports, the work of arranging and securing boats is being carried out urgently.

Seafood processing plants also ended production early so that workers could focus on cleaning up and reinforcing warehouses. Many fishermen took advantage of the time to sell fish, repair boats, refuel, and prepare to set sail as soon as the storm passed.
