Speaking to VietNamNet , an education expert noted that, according to regulations, public universities are only allowed to appoint a maximum of three vice-rectors. However, in reality, many public universities are very large, so they have to flexibly "group" tasks and reassign internal work to suit management needs.
Meanwhile, many large private universities make their own personnel decisions, including the number of vice-presidents. On the other hand, in the private sector, the appointment of vice-presidents is usually based on the individual's competence, management experience, and leadership abilities, while also considering the size, development strategy, and brand of the institution.
According to this expert, having multiple vice-principals in private universities offers several advantages. Firstly, the leadership structure is clearly divided, with each vice-principal responsible for a specific area of expertise, leading to more efficient university operations.
Secondly, having a large number of deputy principals helps reduce the workload for the principal, increasing their ability to control academic, administrative, business collaboration, and quality assurance aspects.
Thirdly, bringing together many experts with high academic titles and degrees in the role of vice-principal also contributes to enhancing the school's prestige and academic brand.
"In private schools, the appointment of vice principals depends on the personnel's capabilities as well as the school's development strategy. This creates advantages in terms of work allocation and strengthens the brand, as long as the system operates efficiently and transparently," he said.
