On the afternoon of October 30, the Central Internal Affairs Committee held a press conference to announce the results of the Standing Committee meeting of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity.

Informing the press about the contents and results of the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Dang Van Dung said that on October 30, in Hanoi , the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee held a meeting to discuss and give opinions on the situation and results of the direction of handling corruption and negative cases and incidents since the 26th Session up to now and the policy of handling a number of cases and incidents under the monitoring and direction of the Steering Committee.
Since the 26th session of the Steering Committee, relevant agencies have made numerous efforts, coordinating closely and harmoniously to strictly implement the conclusions of the Steering Committee's and Standing Committee's meetings; the progress of inspection, auditing, investigation, and handling of cases and incidents has been basically completed according to the Steering Committee's plan, with some cases exceeding the set requirements. The fight against corruption and negative practices continues to be implemented vigorously, resolutely, persistently, without interruption, without any forbidden areas or exceptions; placing the interests of the nation, the people, and the Party above all else; and serving the task of socio-economic development in the best possible way.
Regarding some tasks for the coming period, Mr. Dang Van Dung said that the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee requires Party committees, Party organizations, and functional agencies at all levels to both continue to further strengthen the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negative phenomena; and to focus on directing and strengthening the work of preventing and combating waste; to link the prevention and combating of corruption and negative phenomena with the prevention and combating of waste; and to determine that the prevention and combating of waste has an equivalent position to the prevention and combating of corruption and negative phenomena.

Specifically, the focus will be on leading and directing the decisive handling of serious, complex, and highly publicized cases of corruption and negative practices. The goal is to complete the investigation, prosecution, and trial of 12 cases and 2 incidents by the end of 2024. This includes striving to bring to trial two key cases in accordance with the Steering Committee's plan, namely: the case of "Violation of bidding regulations causing serious consequences; Giving bribes; Receiving bribes; Abusing position and power while performing official duties" occurring at the Project Management Board for Medical Construction Projects under the Bac Ninh Department of Health, AIC International Progress Joint Stock Company, and related units; The case of “Violating regulations on management and use of state assets causing loss and waste; Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences; Receiving bribes; Giving bribes; Taking advantage of positions and powers to influence others for personal gain” occurred at Xuyen Viet Oil Trading, Transport and Tourism Limited Liability Company and a number of related agencies and organizations.
Also at the announcement, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Nguyen Huu Dong said that the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Wastefulness and Negativity (Steering Committee) and the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee regularly direct competent agencies to mobilize surrender, arrest and extradite fugitives to the country for handling according to the law. Since the beginning of the year, the investigation agency of the People's Public Security has mobilized surrender and arrested 9 wanted subjects in cases handled by the investigation agency and resumed investigation according to the law.
"In the coming time, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee will continue to direct the investigation agencies to carry out this task resolutely," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong.
Acknowledging that this task is very difficult because the subjects "have been on the run for a long time, fleeing abroad", Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong emphasized that we must continue to coordinate with countries with extradition agreements to carry out this task. "When we capture the subjects and persuade them to surrender, we will continue to inform them", Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong informed.

Regarding the arrest of wanted subjects, Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, said: The Steering Committee has requested to overcome difficulties and arrest wanted subjects to resume investigations of related cases. The Ministry of Public Security's investigation agency has deployed many solutions, especially international cooperation through criminal extradition and diplomacy to arrest fugitives and bring them back to the country.

"The general spirit of the investigating agency is very resolute in organizing the detection, search, and apprehension of suspects for investigation. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan and other suspects who are on the run should surrender soon to receive leniency from the law. If they do not return and continue to flee, they will still be tried and will not have the opportunity to defend themselves before the law. The message from the investigating agency and the Steering Committee is that these suspects should return soon," Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen said.
