For example, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) expects the entrance threshold for its admission methods to be between 18 and 20 points. This threshold applies to the following methods: admission based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam; priority admission for students from 149 high schools as specified by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; priority direct admission for the best high school students in 2025; priority admission for students who are members of provincial/city teams participating in the national excellent student competition or who won first, second, third, or honorable mention prizes in provincial/city-level excellent student competitions; and students with achievements in social activities, arts, and sports. For the admission method based on the results of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test, the university expects to accept applications from candidates with a score of 620 points or higher.

Sharing further information, Ms. Nguyen Thao Chi, Head of the Communications and Event Management Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said that the university based this admission threshold on last year's score distribution. Therefore, if necessary, the university will adjust the admission threshold to suit the actual score distribution this year.

This year, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) is using 95-99% of its enrollment quota for the combined admission method. The admission formula includes academic performance scores and priority points. Academic performance scores consist of: academic achievement scores (70%), converted high school graduation scores (20%), and converted high school academic scores (10%). Priority points include achievements (literature, sports, arts, social activities, and other achievements) and regional background. Notably, this method uses a 100-point scale, and the minimum quality assurance threshold for admission is 50 points.

Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang, Head of the Training Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, stated that candidates applying to the university only need to achieve a total score of 50/100 to be eligible for admission. The university no longer sets minimum thresholds for each academic component as before. Last year, candidates applying to the university needed to achieve a competency assessment score of 600/1200, a high school graduation exam score of 18/30, and a high school academic score of 54/90 (total score of 3 subjects in the chosen subject combination over 3 years of high school).

The University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) has also announced its admission thresholds based on the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test. According to preliminary information, candidates who take the 2025 exam and achieve a score of 700 or higher will be eligible for admission to all majors at the university. The admission score includes the exam score, bonus points, and priority points, with a maximum bonus of 120 points awarded to candidates with international foreign language certificates as per the university's regulations. For the high school graduation exam score-based admission method, the university expects to accept applications based on a total score of 22.5 or higher for the subjects in the chosen combination. For the integrated circuit design major specifically, the total score for the subjects in the chosen combination must be at least 24 (with a minimum score of 8 in mathematics).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIALIZED FIELDS OF STUDY

Notably, some universities have set their own admission thresholds for certain specialized programs, which are higher than those for other programs. This regulation applies to various admission methods, including high school academic performance reviews and aptitude tests.

For example, Ton Duc Thang University (Ho Chi Minh City) recently announced the projected admission thresholds for the 2025 admission method based on high school academic results. This method considers the academic results of 6 semesters of high school, based on subject combinations and other academic achievements. For the English-language undergraduate program, candidates can apply based on subject combinations with international English certificates. Based on a 40-point scale (a combination of 3 subjects with a weighting of 2 for the main subject), the projected admission scores for various majors range from 22 to 30. However, in addition to this general regulation, many majors have additional requirements for specific subjects, calculated as the average of 6 semesters. For example, for law majors, candidates need to achieve a score of 6.0 or higher in literature, and for computer science, the math score must be 6.5 or higher… However, a representative from Ton Duc Thang University noted that these are projected thresholds for candidates to refer to; the official thresholds will be announced by the university after the 2025 high school graduation exam results are available, as guided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also announced the minimum admission scores, including for law-related majors. Accordingly, the admission method uses the results of the 2025 aptitude test administered by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The minimum quality assurance threshold for general majors is 650 points, and for English-enhanced programs it is 600 points. For law-related majors specifically, the minimum admission score is 720, with a minimum score of 180 points in both the Vietnamese language and mathematics components of the aptitude test.

Using a selection method based on high school academic results from the 12th grade combined with outstanding achievements, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also sets the minimum application score based on the average GPA of the three subjects in the admission combination for the entire 12th grade. The minimum application score is 21 points, except for the Pharmacy major which requires a minimum of 24 points and a "good" academic rating in the 12th grade. For the Law group of majors, the minimum admission score for Mathematics and Literature is 6.0. The minimum admission score for majors at the Quang Ngai branch of the university is lower.

Also related to this threshold, Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), said that the university will announce the admission thresholds for each method immediately after the Ministry of Education and Training announces the distribution of high school graduation exam scores. In particular, this year the university has a general admission threshold for law-related majors, including a minimum score in mathematics. Last year, the minimum score for admission based on high school graduation exam scores was 21 for the three-subject combination.

In addition, universities admitting students to health science and teacher training programs also remind candidates about the minimum quality standards for admission as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training. For example, the University of Health Sciences (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) uses three admission methods. Specifically, for the admission method based on the results of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test, candidates must have achieved a "good" academic performance in their 12th grade. For the nursing program, candidates must have achieved at least a "fair" academic performance in their 12th grade.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education also noted the entrance requirements for English language teaching and technology education majors according to the regulations for teacher training majors. For law majors, students also need to meet the training program standards for the legal field, with a minimum total admission score of 60% of the maximum score on the grading scale. Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also provided specific admission thresholds for each method.

With its admission method based on high school transcripts, the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the University of Transport has specific regulations. The university uses the total score of 3 subjects in the admission combination across 6 semesters of high school (mathematics score multiplied by 2) for admission consideration. No subject average score can be below 5.5 in any academic year. Additionally, for some majors, the university uses an extra criterion requiring candidates to have a physics score with an average grade of 5.5 or higher across all 3 years of high school. This condition applies to majors in the engineering field.
