On the morning of September 12th, leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) met with and encouraged the Vietnam U20 team, who are currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center to finalize their preparations before entering the 2025 U20 Asian Championship Qualifiers.
At the meeting with the entire team, VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, on behalf of the VFF leadership, commended the team's training spirit in the recent period, especially their efforts to overcome unavoidable difficulties caused by storms and heavy rain. Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi affirmed that the VFF leadership always pays attention to and invests in youth teams to build a quality pool of future talent for the national team. Providing opportunities for the team to participate in international friendly matches and training abroad in recent times is part of a long-term strategy to improve the skills and international competition experience of young players.
To prepare for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Qualifiers, the Vietnam U20 team assembled on August 15th at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, followed by a training camp in Japan from August 23rd to September 1st. However, the team's training plan did not go smoothly due to unforeseen difficulties. Specifically, during the training camp in Japan, the team was forced to cancel their final friendly match due to the impact of Typhoon Shanshan.
After completing their training camp and returning home, the training program of Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team was further interrupted by Super Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3), resulting in only one friendly match against the Russian U20 team instead of the originally planned two. The second friendly match was interrupted after 30 minutes due to bad weather, at which point the opposing team was leading 2-0.
Nevertheless, the entire team has strived to overcome difficulties, maintaining a high level of training spirit to prepare as best as possible for the 2025 U20 Asian Championship qualifiers. “The coaching staff had to make changes to the training plan due to the impact of rain and storms, but the goal of the Vietnam U20 team remains unchanged. The whole team will try to achieve the best results in each match, aiming to win a direct ticket to the 2025 U20 Asian Championship finals,” said Coach Hua Hien Vinh.
The 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers feature 45 teams divided into 5 groups of 5 and 5 groups of 4. The 10 group winners and 5 best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals along with host nation China. In this qualifying round, the Vietnam U20 team is in Group A, along with Syria, Bhutan, Guam, and Bangladesh. The Group A matches will be hosted by Vietnam and will take place at the Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong from September 21st to 29th, 2024.
