The Giro d'Italia Donne is a women's cycle race across Italy, covering a distance of 928 km from Tuscany to Olbia, Sardinia.

At this tournament, reigning Asian champion Nguyen Thi That participated as a member of the Swiss racing team Premier Tech Roland.

She is also one of two Asian riders participating in the 2023 Giro d'Italia Donne (the other is Japan's Yonamine Eri).

With one mountain stage, four hilly stages, two intermediate stages and just one flat stage, the Giro d'Italia Donne is a relatively tough race.

On July 3, Nguyen Thi That and the drivers competed in the 4th and longest stage of the 9 races (134 km), with the route from Fidenza to Borgo Val di Toro.

The track was fairly flat at first but as the race progressed the steeper the passes became, and that was when the pack split, with the title contenders at the top and some groups dropping off.

The harshness was shown by the fact that 5 racers had to drop out midway, bringing the total number of racers who dropped out since the beginning of the race to 8.

As for Nguyen Thi That, she still tried her best despite being far behind the leading group. She finished in 151st place, ahead of 13 riders and 24 minutes and 33 seconds behind the first-placed Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl Trek Club). Currently, on the final rankings, the An Giang rider is also ranked 151st.

On July 4, Nguyen Thi That and her teammates will conquer the 5th stage of the Giro d'Italia Donne 2023 from Salassa to Ceres, 105.6km long, with the challenge of a nearly 10km long and 1,400m high pass.
