Many exciting events

Identifying tourism as one of the city's key economic sectors, in recent years Da Nang has actively invested in and built a series of events and festivals to stimulate tourism.

With a distinct highlight being the international fireworks festival, Da Nang has been honored twice as “Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” in 2016 and 2022 within the framework of the World Travel Awards Asia - Oceania.

Some other notable events and festivals in Da Nang that have built their brands and maintained their annual presence, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists, include: Quan The Am - Ngu Hanh Son Festival, Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang event, etc.

These events span many areas such as culture, religion, cinema, sports, etc., helping Da Nang attract a diverse range of visitors, including a significant portion of high-spending, long-stay visitors to stimulate local tourism.

With the merger of Da Nang and Quang Nam, the new city of Da Nang is facing the opportunity to elevate its brand as an event destination. Most notably, the festival - event system in Hoi An, a destination that has long built a series of events - festivals with strong local cultural colors.

The most notable festivals associated with intangible cultural heritage in Hoi An that attract a large number of tourists include: Tra Que Bong Bridge Festival, Lantern Festival, Kim Bong Traditional Craft Village Festival, Thanh Ha Pottery Ancestor Commemoration Festival. To concretize the commitment when joining UNESCO's global creative city network, Hoi An will also have an international lantern festival.

Not only is there a series of festivals associated with local cultural identity, recently, the old Quang Nam area has also organized a number of international-scale events associated with local tourism potential such as: The first international conference on rural tourism of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) at the end of 2024 or the International Travel Conference - Quang Nam in early 2025... The echo from these events has more or less helped spread the brands of local tourist destinations.

Promoting local advantages

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from now until the end of the year, the city will maintain a series of unique events and festivals to contribute to realizing the goal of welcoming 17.3 million overnight guests in 2025.

Some notable events and festivals include: Korean Food Festival in Hoi An (September 6-7); Da Nang International Lantern Festival 2025 (October 2-6); GBA German Beer Festival (expected in October); 21st Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange 2025 (December 5-7); Da Nang Christmas - New Year Festival 2026...

Mr. Tan Van Vuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang city said that Da Nang has identified MICE tourism as one of the priority areas for investment, exploitation and attraction of events, especially international events. In recent times, Da Nang has implemented a number of preferential policies to attract MICE tourism.

A big advantage for Da Nang is that it owns a system of 4-5 star accommodation facilities, leading the country. In addition, Da Nang also has many professional event organizing businesses. That demonstrates the destination's capacity in management, organization and operation to become an event city.

“In the coming time, Da Nang will continue to invest in an international convention and exhibition center with a capacity of more than 10,000 people to improve its capacity to attract events. The management agency is committed to creating all favorable conditions for units to organize international events in the city. Depending on the attractiveness, spread, and ability to create momentum of the event in the fields, Da Nang will have specific policies and mechanisms in supporting financial counterpart funds to organize events, the main source of funding is from the Tourism Promotion Fund of the Da Nang Tourism Association and socialization from the business community,” said Mr. Vuong.
