After the merger, the new Da Nang city possesses many advantages to elevate its status as an event destination, thereby contributing to strongly stimulating tourism development.

Many exciting events

Recognizing tourism as one of the city's key economic sectors, Da Nang has actively invested in and developed a series of events and festivals to stimulate tourism demand over the years.

With its distinctive highlight being the International Fireworks Festival, Da Nang has been honored twice as the "Leading Event and Festival Destination in Asia" in 2016 and 2022 at the World Tourism Awards Asia-Oceania region.

Other notable events and festivals in Da Nang that have established a strong brand and are held annually, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists, include: the Quan The Am - Ngu Hanh Son Festival, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), and the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang event…

These events span various fields such as culture and religion, cinema, and sports, helping Da Nang attract a diverse range of visitors, including a significant segment of high-spending tourists who stay for extended periods, thereby stimulating local tourism.

With the merger of Da Nang and Quang Nam, the new city of Da Nang is poised to elevate its brand as a destination for events. Most notably, the festival and event system in Hoi An, a destination that has long established a series of events and festivals rich in local culture, is a prime example.

The most significant festivals associated with intangible cultural heritage in Hoi An that attract a large number of tourists include: the Cau Bong Tra Que Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Kim Bong Traditional Craft Village Festival, and the Thanh Ha Pottery Ancestor Commemoration Festival. In concretizing its commitment upon joining UNESCO's global creative cities network, Hoi An will also soon host an international lantern festival.

Besides a series of festivals linked to local cultural identity, the former Quang Nam area has recently hosted several international-scale events related to local tourism potential, such as the first International Conference on Rural Tourism of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) at the end of 2024 and the International Travel Conference - Quang Nam at the beginning of 2025… The impact of these events has, to some extent, helped to further spread the brand of local tourist destinations.

Leveraging local advantages

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from now until the end of the year, the city will maintain a series of unique events and festivals, contributing to the goal of welcoming 17.3 million overnight visitors in 2025.

Some notable events and festivals include: the Korean Food Festival in Hoi An (September 6-7); the Da Nang International Lantern Festival 2025 (October 2-6); the GBA German Beer Festival (expected in October); the 21st Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange 2025 (December 5-7); the Da Nang Christmas and New Year Festival 2026…

Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang city, said that Da Nang identifies MICE tourism as one of the priority areas for investment, exploitation, and attracting events, especially international events. In recent times, Da Nang has implemented several preferential policies to attract MICE tourism.

Da Nang has a significant advantage in possessing a system of 4-5 star accommodation facilities that are among the best in the country. In addition, Da Nang also has many professional event organizing businesses. This demonstrates the destination's capacity in management, organization, and operation, aiming to become a leading event city.

“In the coming time, Da Nang will continue to invest in an international convention and exhibition center with a capacity of over 10,000 people to enhance its capacity to attract events. The management agency is committed to creating all favorable conditions for international event organizers in the city. Depending on the attractiveness, reach, and potential of the event in various fields, Da Nang will have specific policies and mechanisms to support the financial matching funds for organizing events, mainly from the Da Nang Tourism Association's Tourism Promotion Fund and social contributions from the business community,” Mr. Vuong said.
