Le Thi Mong Tuyen finished fifth in the 10m air rifle event at the 2024 Asian Shooting Championships this afternoon, January 10th, thereby securing a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Vietnam had three shooters competing against 59 athletes from other countries and territories in the 10m air rifle event. In the qualifying round, Mong Tuyen scored 627.8 points to advance to the final, while her two teammates, Phi Thanh Thao (625.2 points) and Nguyen Thi Thao (615.5 points), were eliminated.
Of the eight shooters who reached the final, five had already secured spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Therefore, the remaining two spots were a close contest between Mong Tuyen and Amini Pozveh (Iran) and Huiyi Tan (Singapore). The Vietnamese shooter achieved a total of 188.7 points after six rounds of shooting. She ranked above both of her direct competitors to win her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Mong Tuyen is the second Vietnamese shooter to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Previously, Trinh Thu Vinh secured the first spot by finishing fifth in the women's 10m air pistol final at the 2023 World Shooting Championships.
The 2024 Asian Shooting Championships took place in Indonesia from January 4th to 18th. The Vietnamese shooting team, led by head coach Park Chung Gun, participated in the competition, consisting of 11 shooters: Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang (women's pistol), Pham Quang Huy, Lai Cong Minh, Phan Cong Minh, Ha Minh Thanh, Vu Tien Nam, Phan Xuan Chuyen (men's pistol), Le Thi Mong Tuyen, Phi Thanh Thao, Nguyen Thi Thao (women's rifle).
Before Mong Tuyen secured her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, the duo Pham Quang Huy and Trinh Thu Vinh won the gold medal in the 10m individual medley pistol event on January 9th. However, this event does not count towards Olympic qualification.
Vietnam currently has four spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics . Besides Mong Tuyen and Thu Vinh in shooting, the other two spots belong to cyclist Nguyen Thi That in the women's road race and swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang in the men's 800m freestyle.
