The road to Phu Tho is vast
Implementing the key strategic breakthrough in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term on building a synchronous infrastructure system, prior to the merger, all three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh prioritized investment resources in building and upgrading transportation infrastructure in a synchronous and modern direction.
Specifically, the former Phu Tho province has 20 important transportation projects in its medium-term public investment plan for the 2021-2025 period. To date, 17 out of 20 projects have been completed or are nearing completion, such as: inter-regional roads connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway with National Highway 70B and National Highway 32C from Phu Tho to Yen Bai ; the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway, etc. During the 2021-2025 period, the former Vinh Phuc province allocated 19,526 billion VND for the development of road transport infrastructure. A highlight was the completion and commissioning of the Vinh Phu bridge across the Lo River connecting Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho, and the railway overpass on Nguyen Tat Thanh road. With the motto "transportation leads the way," the former Hoa Binh province prioritizes investment in transport infrastructure to create a foundation for socio-economic development. During the past term, the province accelerated the completion of several key transportation projects to gradually complete the transportation network according to the plan, such as the road connecting Hoa Binh city and Kim Boi, the Hoa Binh - Hanoi regional link road, roads 433, 450, 436, and the road connecting Luong Son town and Xuan Mai, Hanoi (phase 1)... Currently, the rate of concrete and asphalt paving of national highways, provincial roads, district roads, and urban roads in the province has reached 100%.
The Provincial House of Culture and Arts is ready to host national and international events.
The province currently has 30,721 km of roads. This includes 130.3 km of expressways, comprising the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway (101.4 km), the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway (28.9 km), and 973.2 km of national highways. Regarding waterways, Phu Tho has 678 km of inland waterways, including 369 km of centrally-managed inland waterways and 309 km of local inland waterways with 55 operational inland waterway terminals. In addition, Phu Tho is traversed by the national-level Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line, spanning 112.93 km with 13 stations. This comprehensive, modern, and widespread transportation system connects Phu Tho with Hanoi, the Northwest region, and the broader North Central region.
Currently, a series of multi-billion dollar transportation projects are being accelerated, such as: the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway; the project to renovate and expand National Highway 2, the Vinh Yen - Viet Tri section; the expansion of the Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh road to a 6-lane expressway standard with a design speed of 100 km/h; the renovation and upgrading of National Highway 6, the Xuan Mai - Hoa Binh section... contributing to the synchronization and modernization of transportation infrastructure for Phu Tho province.
Traffic has been cleared, all roads leading to Phu Tho are now open. This is an important “plus point” for Phu Tho to be worthy of being chosen as a place to hold national and international events.
A worthy destination for national and international events
In mid-August, Phu Tho province held the inauguration ceremony for the Provincial Cultural and Arts Center – a key project representing the people of the Hung Kings' ancestral land. The project, with a total investment of nearly 426 billion VND after adjustments, was built on a plot of land nearly 18,000 square meters. The Provincial Cultural and Arts Center has a seating capacity of approximately 1,000; its interior is modern and well-equipped with a sound and lighting system, fire safety measures, and numerous functional rooms for performances and large-scale events.
At the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huy Ngoc affirmed: The Provincial Cultural and Arts Center not only creates a modern architectural highlight but also a cultural space worthy of its stature, meeting the expectations of many generations of officials and people in the province. The construction of this project is an important step towards realizing the goal of building Phu Tho into a center for organizing national and international cultural and artistic events. The Provincial Cultural and Arts Center deserves to be a world-class stage for professional performances, serving the increasingly sophisticated cultural needs of the people; an indispensable cultural and tourist destination in the journey back to the roots of the Vietnamese nation.
Following the merger, the expanded space, advantages, and infrastructure of all three provinces have created strong potential for the new province. Currently, Phu Tho province has two national tourist areas: the Hung Temple Historical Site and the Tam Dao Tourist Area. The Hoa Binh Lake Tourist Area has now met the criteria of a national tourist area. The entire province currently has 1,520 accommodation establishments with more than 20,000 rooms; including 182 hotels, 9 of which are 4-5 star hotels. Notably, in 2022, the Tam Dao Tourist Area was honored by the World Travel Awards as the "World's Leading Tourist Town". In addition, there are currently 94 travel businesses in the province (15 international travel service businesses and 79 domestic travel service businesses). In addition, there is a large, well-trained, and experienced workforce ready to organize political events as well as handle reception, logistics, and services for domestic and international tourists.
Besides its well-developed transportation system, modern infrastructure, and abundant human resources, Phu Tho is also a land rich in culture and historical sites. Currently, the province has 2,778 historical sites, including 6 special national historical sites and 176 national historical sites; 6 national treasures along with thousands of artifacts and antiques. Phu Tho province has nearly 2,000 intangible cultural heritage items, including 5 UNESCO-listed sites and 41 national-level intangible cultural heritage items. These exceptionally valuable cultural assets make Phu Tho a suitable choice for hosting political events, cultural exchanges, conferences, and more.
Affirming prestige and experience in organizing national and international tournaments
Bordering Hanoi, with convenient transportation and standard infrastructure, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, and Vinh Phuc had been repeatedly chosen as venues for national and international sports tournaments before the merger. After the merger, the combined infrastructure and experience in organizing major tournaments further strengthened the "Phu Tho" brand and enhanced its prestige.
With its well-developed infrastructure and proximity to Hanoi, the former Vinh Phuc province was known as a familiar location for hosting domestic and international volleyball and marathon tournaments. Following the merger, in early July, the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium was again chosen to host the VTV Ferroli Cup 2025 International Women's Volleyball Tournament. The tournament attracted 8 teams from Vietnam, Australia, China, Russia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Subsequently, on August 16th, the VTV LPBank International Marathon - Rhythm Through Time 2025 was successfully held at the Flamingo Dai Lai Resort, bringing together over 7,000 runners from 8 countries competing in 3 distances. The running routes, designed through lush green pine forests, along the shores of a picturesque lake, and close to unique architectural structures, created a special and unforgettable impression for the athletes.
While the former Vinh Phuc region excelled in volleyball and marathons, the central Phu Tho region's strength lies in football. Viet Tri Stadium, with a capacity of 20,000 seats, has undergone numerous upgrades and renovations, becoming one of the most modern stadiums in the region. Access to the stadium is also convenient, being less than an hour's drive from Noi Bai Airport. The stadium is considered to have high-quality turf, lighting systems, electronic scoreboards, and functional rooms that meet international competition standards. Viet Tri Stadium has successfully hosted many major international tournaments. Notably, this includes men's football at the SEA Games 31 and the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, along with numerous Asian qualifying tournaments at various youth levels such as U17, U20, U23... For the past two months, Viet Tri Stadium has been chosen to host the group stage of the ASEAN MSIG Serenity Cup 2025 and the qualifying rounds for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
In the south of the province, the old Hoa Binh area has been chosen many times to host national and international cycling races. The province has invested in infrastructure, most notably a 7km long mountain bike track and standard road cycling routes, to successfully host the cycling events at the 2022 SEA Games. Every year, Hoa Binh is also regularly chosen to host the National Amateur Cycling Championships and the National Amateur Mountain Bike Championships. From August 18th to 28th, the 30th National Youth Road and Mountain Bike Championships were successfully held here, with the participation of 15 teams from provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, and the Army. A series of national and international sporting events organized in the province after two months of merger have affirmed Phu Tho's prestige and strengths in organizing sporting events in particular, and events in general.
With improved transportation infrastructure, a well-developed infrastructure, established experience and reputation, and especially with its sacred status as the ancestral land and the cradle of the nation, Phu Tho is ready to become a center for organizing national and international political, cultural, and social events.
