According to a VNA reporter at the scene, the "death hole" is located close to the right side of Nguyen Cong Tru Street (from Ngo Quyen Street to Tran Hung Dao). The hole is nearly half the width of the road, more than 10 meters long, and about 2 meters deep. At the time of the collapse, two cars parked close to the roadside fell into the hole, and another car was half on the edge of the hole.

The location of the hole is close to the fence of the project named Capital Square which is under construction. Part of the fence of this project has collapsed towards the mouth of the "death hole". Inside the fence, the project's foundation is being constructed, and many construction machines are still operating.

By 4:00 p.m. the same day, the authorities had lifted the cars from the pit for further processing. The road around the pit was fenced off to ensure security.
