Shortly after her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, the 20-year-old Chinese woman unexpectedly found out she had colon cancer. Worried about her diet and lifestyle, she sought advice from nutritionist Xu Qingyue (China).
Upon investigation, the doctor learned that the girl's family regularly grilled meat three times a week, and they even used old car tires as a grill. Despite the food being burnt, everyone still tried to eat it all.

Dr. Hua believes that the fact that both mother and daughter developed cancer may be related to inhaling and consuming toxic substances generated from grilling meat over a long period. Smoke from burning tires can contain carcinogens, and when grilling meat on old tires, these toxic gases are released, directly harming their health.
Dr. Hua warned that if food is burnt, it should absolutely not be eaten. If it's impossible to throw away the whole thing, at least the burnt part should be removed. Furthermore, not only eating burnt food but also inhaling airborne pollutants during grilling increases the risk of cancer. These particles also cling to clothing and hair and are dispersed into the surrounding air.
The best diet for colorectal cancer patients.
According to nutrition experts, the best nutritional approach for cancer patients in general, and colorectal cancer patients in particular, should take the following points into account:
- Each day, you should divide your main meals into 6-8 smaller meals.
- Maintain adequate water intake according to the formula: body weight (kg) x 40 = number of ml to drink each day.
- It is important to eat a balanced diet including all food groups such as fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, etc.
- Daily exercise should last 15-30 minutes: the level, intensity, and types of exercise should be chosen according to each patient; overexertion should be avoided.
Family members should prepare food that suits the patient's taste and the stage of the illness.
Besides a nutritious diet, patients should try to maintain an optimistic and positive attitude, as this is also an effective way to support cancer treatment.

What foods should colorectal cancer patients avoid?
During treatment, patients with colorectal cancer should note the following:
- Grilled, fried, and stir-fried foods, smoked meats, frozen foods, canned foods… are food groups containing high amounts of saturated fat, especially animal fat, which will make it difficult for the patient's stomach to digest. This hinders the body's absorption of nutrients. Therefore, these food groups should be minimized.
- Food for colorectal cancer patients should prioritize simple preparation methods such as steaming or boiling. Avoid excessive amounts of oil, fat, fried foods, etc.
- Limit foods high in sugar, and especially avoid carbonated drinks, caffeinated beverages, alcohol, and tobacco.
- In cases of milk allergy, patients should avoid drinking milk or dairy products to prevent nausea and diarrhea.
- For patients who have recently undergone colorectal cancer surgery, family members should be careful not to give them foods that produce a lot of gas or are likely to cause infection. Examples include: beans, spicy and hot foods, fermented foods, broccoli, peppers, raw vegetables, etc.
- In cases where patients are unable to eat normally or have digestive disorders, doctors will use intravenous feeding to provide sufficient nutrients, helping them recover quickly during treatment.
