Negotiations between Britain and Canada on a bilateral trade deal after Britain leaves the European Union (EU) have been put on hold.
UK and Canada to start trade negotiations from March 2022.
The Canadian government has faced pressure from domestic cheese producers to compare it with imports from the UK, according to the BBC. Canada is also pushing the UK to ease its ban on imports of hormone-treated beef from Canada.
A spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng said she was "disappointed" that talks had been suspended and had communicated this to UK Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch.
A UK government spokesperson said the UK remains open to restarting talks with Canada in the future to build a stronger trading relationship.
