Negotiations between the UK and Canada on a bilateral trade agreement following the UK's departure from the European Union (EU) have been put on hold.
The UK and Canada began trade negotiations in March 2022.
According to the BBC, the Canadian government has faced pressure from domestic cheese producers regarding the quality of cheese imported from the UK. Canada is also urging the UK to ease its ban on imports of hormone-treated beef from Canada.
A spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng said she was "disappointed" by the pause in talks and had informed UK Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch of this.
A spokesperson for the British government said they remain open to restarting talks with Canada in the future to build a stronger trade relationship.
