According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 27, at the invitation of Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae Yul, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will pay an official visit to Korea from May 30 to June 1.

Minister Bui Thanh Son's official visit to Korea took place in the context of the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership being in its best development stage. In terms of politics and diplomacy, the administration of President Yoon Suck Yeol of Korea affirmed that it considers Vietnam an important partner in Korea's foreign policy, a focus in implementing the Indo- Pacific strategy and the ASEAN - Korea Solidarity Initiative of Seoul. The two countries regularly maintain exchanges at all levels and localities, cooperate and support each other in regional and international forums. In terms of economy, trade and investment, Korea continues to hold its position as one of Vietnam's leading important economic partners. Korea is Vietnam's largest investor with a total accumulated investment capital of 87 billion USD (as of April 2024), and is also Vietnam's second largest partner in ODA cooperation and the third largest partner in labor and trade cooperation. Regarding people-to-people exchanges, there are currently more than 270,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Korea. In 2023, the number of Korean tourists to Vietnam reached 3.6 million, ranking first among international visitors to Vietnam. Meanwhile, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Korea reached more than 500,000. In the first 4 months of 2024, Korea remained the largest tourist market to Vietnam, with 1.6 million arrivals, accounting for 25.8% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam. In that context, the official visit to Korea by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son aims to continue implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, demonstrating Vietnam's respect and desire to further strengthen the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit also continues to promote the implementation of high-level cooperation agreements and important results achieved during recent visits by leaders of the two countries, especially in the fields of politics, security, defense, economy, trade, investment, development aid, finance and banking, labor cooperation, science and technology, climate change response, transportation, infrastructure, education, cultural cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
