* Russia attacks Ukrainian air bases: On August 6, the country's Ministry of Defense announced that Russian forces had attacked Ukrainian air bases in the Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and Zaporizhzhia provinces.

The statement said: “Last night, the Russian Armed Forces (VS RF) attacked… air bases of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VSU) around the settlements of Starokostiantinov in Khmelnytskyi province and Dubno in Rivne province.” The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack was successful and that “all targets were hit.” These are bases for Ukrainian Su-24M bombers equipped with Storm Shadow tactical cruise missiles. * Chonhar Bridge continues to be hit by missiles: On August 6th, Sergei Aksyonov, a Russian-appointed official in Crimea, stated that the Chonhar bridge connecting to Crimea had been damaged by a Ukrainian missile attack that same day. He said: “The enemy fired missiles at an area of ​​the Chonhar bridge in northern Crimea. For his part, Vladimir Saldo, the acting governor of Kherson province appointed by Russia, suggested that the missile that attacked the bridge could be a British-French manufactured Storm Shadow, but offered no further evidence. He said: “Today, the VSU fired missiles across the Tonky Strait, connecting the city of Henichesk and Cape Arabast. They launched 12 missiles, but the air defense system shot down 9 of them.”

Meanwhile, the VSU's Strategic Information Service stressed that the incident damaged the surface of the bridge, a crucial route connecting Crimea and the part of Ukraine controlled by the Russian military. The unit reported that one person sustained minor injuries and damage to a gas pipeline near the Henichesk Bridge. A school in the area was also damaged. ASEAN IIDC 2023 is an event initiated by the Indonesian Islamic Council (NU), with support from Jakarta through the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aiming to strengthen the network of influential figures and religious leaders of member states, promote diverse cultural and religious values ​​in the region, as well as a harmonious and inclusive society, and contribute to building world peace. * Poland detects oil pipeline leak from Russia : On August 6th, the Polish pipeline operator PERN announced that on the evening of August 5th, they detected an oil leak from the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia. The leak was discovered near Chodecz, in central Poland, on the western branch leading to Germany. Oil pumping through this branch was immediately halted.

According to PERN, the second branch of the Druzhba pipeline through Poland remains operational and the leak does not threaten the health of local residents. However, firefighters and emergency services have been deployed to the scene and the cause of the leak is under investigation. PERN expects to resume pumping oil through the leaking pipeline on the morning of August 8th after the problem is resolved.

* Turkish newspaper reports : President Erdogan and his Russian counterpart will discuss Ukraine: On August 7th, Hurriyet (Turkey), citing sources, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Ankara in the last week of the month. During the visit, he will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

* Niger Coup: Airspace Closed, ECOWAS Needs More Time? On August 6th, the deadline for the ultimatum from the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) regarding potential armed intervention, nearly 30,000 supporters of the military coup in Niger gathered at the Seini Kountché Stadium in the capital, Niamey. A delegation of members of the National Defense Council (CNSP), the force currently leading Niger, arrived at the stadium. General Mohamed Toumba, the leader of the CNSP, denounced those “hiding in the shadows” and those “conspiring to overthrow… Niger’s path forward.”

On the same day, the Chinese Embassy in Niger said its citizens should leave for a third country or return home for temporary asylum if there is no reason to stay.
