President: Wishing a warm Tet holiday to people on islands in the southwestern sea of ​​the Fatherland

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - On the morning of January 14th, President Luong Cuong and the Central Government delegation visited and extended New Year greetings to the armed forces units stationed in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province.

Over the years, the armed forces stationed in Phu Quoc City have maintained strict combat readiness, accurately assessing and predicting the situation, especially in coastal and island areas and key strategic locations. The quality, effectiveness, and combat readiness of the militia and self-defense forces have been enhanced, making a significant contribution to protecting and maintaining political security and social order in the locality, and safeguarding maritime and island sovereignty.

After listening to the reports from the leaders and commanders of the units on the results of their tasks and preparations for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, President Luong Cuong acknowledged and praised the outstanding achievements of the officers and soldiers of the units who, through unity and overcoming all difficulties and challenges, successfully completed their tasks in the past year. The President pointed out that 2025 is a year of special significance for the country, with many major political events of the Party and the nation; it is a year of "accelerating, breaking through, and reaching the finish line," striving to achieve and surpass the goals and targets set by the 13th National Congress of the Party, leading the country confidently into a new era, an era of national progress. In this context, the President requested that the armed forces units stationed in Phu Quoc city and currently performing duties protecting the southwestern sea and islands of the Fatherland focus on effectively implementing Resolution No. 44-NQ/TW of the 8th Plenum of the 13th Central Committee on the Strategy for National Defense in the New Situation, especially the new thinking and understanding on national defense.

The President urged all forces to maintain vigilance, clearly understand the targets, partners, schemes, and tactics of hostile forces; proactively grasp the situation, promptly detect and resolve newly arising issues, avoiding passivity and surprise in all situations; resolutely and persistently carry out the task of protecting maritime sovereignty and islands; be alert and accurately handle complex situations at sea according to the correct principles and policies; and promptly advise the Party and State on "correct" and "effective" solutions to firmly protect sovereignty and territory, and maintain a peaceful and stable environment for development. The President requested the armed forces, together with local Party committees and authorities, to effectively coordinate and cooperate in combat to manage and protect maritime sovereignty; protect oil and gas activities and marine resource exploitation, and marine economic activities; prevent and combat crime; and effectively handle Vietnamese fishing vessels illegally fishing in foreign waters. Effectively fulfill the core role in building a comprehensive national defense system and a national defense posture linked to a solid people's security system and people's security posture. Further improve the work of mass mobilization, propaganda on maritime and island issues, and rescue and relief operations, protecting and assisting fishermen, especially in offshore areas and islands, creating a solid foundation for fishermen to venture out to sea and maintain their livelihoods while participating in protecting maritime sovereignty. Along with this, the President emphasized the importance of improving the effectiveness of defense and security diplomacy in accordance with the Party and State's viewpoints, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment at sea. Continue to research and advise the Party, State, Ministry of National Defense, and Ministry of Public Security on policies and strategies to address outstanding issues in the Southwest Sea region.

On the other hand, the President requested a focus on building clean and strong Party organizations in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, organization, and personnel. Continuously improve the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees and organizations at all levels, while promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style. Thorough and meticulous preparation and successful organization of Party congresses at all levels, leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party. In particular, comrades must pay attention to and care for the development of human resources, ensuring that cadres and soldiers always possess firm political resolve; have a scientific and innovative working method and style; practice what they preach; dare to think, dare to act, dare to take responsibility; constantly learn and strive to master new and modern technical equipment; and have the determination to "dare to fight, know how to fight, be determined to fight, and have the belief in victory over all forms of new-generation warfare." The President also noted the need to do a good job of publicizing major holidays and important political events of the country in 2025. At the same time, during the upcoming Lunar New Year, close coordination with local Party committees, authorities, and all levels and sectors is necessary to ensure a happy and fulfilling Lunar New Year for the people in the areas where the troops are stationed. The goal is to support and assist families with meritorious service to the revolution, policy beneficiary families, poor households, and children on the islands of the Southwest Sea region so that they can celebrate the Lunar New Year more warmly and fully; leaving no one behind. On the eve of the New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President wished the officers and soldiers of the armed forces units stationed in Phu Quoc City and those serving in the Southwest Sea and islands of the Fatherland a new year filled with good health, happiness, prosperity, and success.
