On February 29th, many social media pages in Phu Yen shared images of a schoolgirl who decided to cut off a portion of her hair to donate to cancer patients.
The student in question is Huynh Tran Uyen Phuong (3A class, Le Quy Don Primary School, Hoa Tan Dong commune, Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province). Phuong's actions have touched people's hearts and are currently receiving much praise from everyone.
Donating hair out of compassion for cancer patients.
On the same day, a reporter from Tuoi Tre Online visited Phuong's school to hear her share about this meaningful decision.
Speaking to us, Phuong said she had just cut her hair this afternoon, and the cut hair had been sent by her father by mail to a hair salon in Hanoi to be donated to cancer patients.
"As soon as I got home from school, my parents took me to the barbershop so I could send my donated hair to Hanoi to help cancer patients. I really hope that the hair I donate will help cancer patients stay optimistic and healthy," Phuong said.
Sharing her reasons for donating her hair to cancer patients, Phuong said that her parents had long hoped their daughter would do something meaningful to help others.
"My parents often told me that when my hair grew long, I could donate it to cancer patients. Although I felt a little sad when I cut my hair because I had taken care of it since I was little, I thought about how it would be a spiritual gift for the cancer patients, so I wasn't sad anymore."
"Since my hair got short, my classmates have complimented me a lot. They praised me for daring to cut off my hair, which I've been growing since I was little, to donate it," Phuong confided.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen, the vice principal in charge of Le Quy Don Primary School, said that Phuong is a well-behaved and gentle student at the school, always actively participating in school activities and having excellent academic performance.
"When I heard that Phuong had donated her hair to cancer patients, I was very surprised. Seeing her at school with a new wig, I was truly moved and very proud of my student. Although she is still young, she has such warm thoughts and actions," Ms. Huyen said.

A 'shower' of compliments from everyone.
As soon as Phuong's story spread on social media, many people expressed their admiration and emotion at the actions of this third-grade student, such as: "10 out of 10, my dear girl!", "Short hair is beautiful too. What a meaningful deed!", "Amazing, my dear girl, I wish you continued academic success!", "Thank you for doing something so meaningful..."
Mr. Huynh Phi Hat (Phuong's father) said that he had watched many video clips about a barbershop in Hanoi that did a very good job of donating hair to cancer patients. Based on that, Mr. Hat asked Phuong for her opinion and persuaded his daughter to donate her hair.
"Phuong was born in December 2015. This is the first time Phuong has cut her hair and also the first time she has donated it. After donating her hair, Phuong even wrote a letter about her feelings to send to cancer patients. I am truly proud of what my daughter has done," Mr. Hat confided.
Mr. Tran Doan Hung, representing the hair salon that received Phuong's hair, said that Phuong's actions truly moved him because she is so young but has a very mature mindset for her age.
According to Mr. Hung, this is truly something that not everyone can do.
"After receiving Phuong's hair, we will directly send it to K Hospital and the 'Bright Tomorrow' fund. The hair will then be woven and donated to cancer patients in hospitals nationwide. These woven hair pieces, once made into wigs and given directly to cancer patients undergoing treatment, will be a great source of encouragement for them to fight the disease," Hung shared.
