Southern Helicopter Company conducts rescue flight for fishermen at Song Tu Tay Island.

On the morning of September 6, the flight crew of the Southern Helicopter Company (Army Corps 18, Ministry of National Defense) landed at the parking lot of Military Hospital 175, handed over the patient to the hospital for treatment, successfully completing the mission of medical rescue flight for fishermen in distress in the sea and island areas.

Earlier, on the evening of September 5th, following orders from superiors, the Southern Helicopter Company dispatched an experienced flight crew along with a modern EC-225 helicopter from Vung Tau airport, along with an air ambulance team from Military Hospital 175 , to Song Tu Tay Island (Truong Sa Special Zone, Khanh Hoa province) to carry out an urgent medical mission.

The patient, fisherman Nguyen Duc Quang, born in 1980, from Ly Son ( Quang Ngai ), was diagnosed with type 2 decompression sickness due to deep diving, at 21 hours old, severe, with multi-organ damage (circulatory, respiratory, kidney, nervous system) and complications of irreversible cardiac and respiratory arrest; the prognosis included a high risk of aspiration, embolism, progressive paralysis, and multi-organ failure, exceeding the treatment capabilities of the Song Tu Tay Island Clinic, therefore urgent helicopter transport to the mainland for emergency treatment was required.

The helicopter landed at Military Hospital 175, handing over the patient to the hospital for timely emergency treatment.

Taking off from Vung Tau airport at 9 PM on September 5th, refueling at Truong Sa Island, the flight crew landed at Song Tu Tay Island at 2:50 AM on September 6th. The medical team quickly approached and transferred the patient onto the helicopter.

After many hours of flying over the sea in the dark of night, at 10:38 AM on September 6th, the helicopter landed safely at the helipad of Military Hospital 175, handing over the patient to doctors for further treatment, thus saving the fisherman's life.

Throughout the mission, despite night flights in complex weather conditions, long flight times, and multiple takeoffs and landings, the unit promptly implemented preparations according to procedures; closely coordinated with the Air Force, Navy, and other relevant forces to effectively handle all situations. The flight crew coordinated seamlessly, ensuring absolute safety and successfully completing the assigned mission.
