According to the report of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the proposed PPP plan includes three main components. Specifically, a free trade zone with an area of about 225 hectares; an urban area for ecological services of the airport with an area of 185 hectares and an industrial park with a scale of about 360 hectares. Of the total expected investment capital, the Chu Lai Airport project alone needs about 3.3 billion USD, the remaining part of about 6.7 billion USD is for the development of the airport ecosystem.
According to the master plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Chu Lai Airport is oriented to reach 4F international standards. By 2030, this airport will have a capacity of about 10 million passengers and 1.5 million tons of cargo per year; by 2050, the capacity is expected to increase to about 30 million passengers per year.
Chu Lai Airport is located in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, in the Nui Thanh area, Da Nang City, about 38 km from the center of Quang Ngai province. Currently, this airport has a capacity of about 1.2 million passengers per year.
