Da Nang affirms its position on the semiconductor map of Vietnam

DNVN - On August 30, Danang Semiconductor Day (VMBD) 2025 took place - one of the three key events of Danang Finance and Technology Week 2025 co-organized by the City People's Committee and the Central Policy and Strategy Committee from August 28 to 30.

According to the Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Da Nang , this city is the first locality in the country to choose a day dedicated to VMBD (August 30), affirming the aspiration and vision for development in this field. After one year since the first time the event "Da Nang VMBD Day" was held (August 30, 2024), the city has made strong progress in terms of policy, infrastructure, human resources and investment attraction.

From 8 initial design enterprises, the VMBD ecosystem in Da Nang has expanded to 25 enterprises, participating in various stages of packaging and testing. The presence of many large domestic and foreign technology corporations has affirmed the attraction and position of Da Nang on the map of VMBD in Vietnam.

Up to now, there have been 8 universities and colleges enrolling VMBD students in the area with a scale of 600 students in 2024 and expected to reach 1,000 students in 2025. In addition, the city has implemented 6 training courses for more than 255 lecturers and students, demonstrating practical and sustainable steps in human resource development.

The year 2025 marks an important milestone for the VMBD sector in Da Nang when VSAP-LAB Joint Stock Company launches the Fab-Lab project for advanced packaging technology production with a total capital of over VND 1,800 billion. This is a pioneering model in Vietnam with an expected design capacity of 10 million products/year, serving both domestic and international markets.

In particular, VSAP LAB is the first Vietnamese company in the field of semiconductor technology founded and developed by a team of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals - with decades of experience at the world's leading technology corporations in the United States, Taiwan (China), Korea, Japan, and Singapore, with the long-term goal of mastering core technology.

Introducing new products of the semiconductor industry at "Da Nang Semiconductor Day 2025".

Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said that semiconductor chip technology is identified as one of 11 strategic technology areas that Vietnam needs to prioritize investment, mastery and development. Focus on strategic technology products including specialized chips, AI chips and IoT chips.

“The Central Government has determined a development roadmap from human resource training to research, design, packaging, testing and moving towards microchip production, determining that the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry must go hand in hand with the development of the electronics industry and digital transformation industry to create output for semiconductor chips,” said Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet.

On that basis, Da Nang City issued Decision 257/QD-UBND (January 21, 2025) promulgating the Project on developing the field of VMBD and artificial intelligence (AI), setting the goal of making Da Nang one of the three leading centers in the country in VMBD design and AI application by 2030.

Establish a network for training high-quality human resources and an innovation ecosystem in the VMBD and AI industries. Focus on developing at least 5,000 high-quality human resources in the VMBD field; establish at least 30 design enterprises, 2 packaging enterprises, and at least 5 startups in the VMBD field.
