This afternoon, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, had talks with Mr. Haluk Gorgun, Chairman of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency.

General Phan Van Giang stated that Mr. Haluk Gorgun's visit is very important, as it is a step to implement the commitment to strengthen defense industry cooperation agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders in the Vietnam-Turkey Joint Statement during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's visit to Turkey (November 2023).

Over the past 50 years, the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye have been continuously strengthened and developed. There is still a lot of room for cooperation, including in the field of defense.

The Minister of National Defense emphasized that Vietnam is steadfast in its “four no’s” defense policy. Vietnam wishes to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on the basis of equality, mutual respect, for common interests, contributing to maintaining peace , stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Vietnam advocates multilateralization, diversification, equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all partners, including Türkiye.

Vietnam's purchase of defense equipment from partners, whether from Türkiye or any other country, is aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities, serving the purpose of protecting the Fatherland and protecting peace.

Vietnam is interested in international cooperation in the defense industry, aiming for self-sufficiency in the production of military equipment.

According to General Phan Van Giang, in recent times, defense industry cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye has been promoted and achieved many results.

The two sides have worked together to build and sign a memorandum of understanding on defense industry cooperation last July, thereby creating a framework to promote and enhance cooperation, in accordance with the needs and capabilities of both sides.

The two sides support and actively participate in defense industry exhibitions and fairs organized by each side.

Deepening defense industry cooperation

General Phan Van Giang suggested that both sides continue to coordinate, bringing defense industry cooperation between the two countries into deeper and more substantial depth. The two countries need to share and update information, laws, and policies on purchasing defense products of each side; support and participate in defense exhibitions organized by each side.

The General affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready to support and create conditions for Turkish defense industry enterprises to continue to exchange and contact with agencies and units to introduce products as well as explore areas of cooperation suitable to the needs and capabilities of both sides.

The General hoped that Mr. Haluk Gorgun, leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and Turkish defense industry enterprises would continue to pay attention and support Vietnam in organizing the 3rd International Defense Exhibition scheduled to take place next year.

For his part, Mr. Haluk Gorgun sympathized with Vietnam about the loss of life and property caused by the storms.

He expressed hope that the two countries will continue to strengthen and further enhance their cooperative relations, while actively researching new potential areas.

Mr. Haluk Gorgun said that the memorandum of understanding on defense industry cooperation demonstrates trust and is an important foundation for defense industry cooperation. Defense industry cooperation plays an important role in Turkey-Vietnam relations.
