Held for the first time in Vietnam, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Roundtable Forum opened at Duy Tan University (Da Nang City), emphasizing the central role of education and young human resources in the strategy for sustainable tourism development.
Taking place from July 2-4, the first ASEAN-Korea Tourism Roundtable Forum brought together numerous representatives from government agencies, experts, businesses, international organizations, and students from ASEAN countries and Korea. This event marked the beginning of a three-year rotating conference series held in ASEAN countries, organized by Duy Tan University in collaboration with the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) Network.
Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong highly appreciated the forum's initiative in the context of the tourism industry recovering after the pandemic. "ASEAN-Korea tourism is not only about cultural exchange, but also a driving force for economic development and connecting people. We need to be creative, adaptable, and strengthen socio-cultural ties. In this, the role of the younger generation and students is very important," Mr. Phong emphasized.

At the forum, Mr. Le Nguyen Bao, Director of Duy Tan University, stated that young human resources are the "key" to helping tourism break through in the new era. Mr. Bao affirmed: "Today's students not only need to be professionally competent, but also must have a global mindset, cultural understanding, and a spirit of integration. They are the future 'tourism ambassadors' of the region."
The Director of Duy Tan University also believes that higher education needs to play a larger role in the development of the tourism industry, through linkages between universities, businesses, and international organizations. This will help students not only access knowledge but also have opportunities to practice in a professional environment, forming a creative and dynamic workforce.

The forum attracted the attention of numerous policymakers, experts, tourism businesses, and international organizations from ASEAN and South Korea, marking a new step forward in tourism cooperation between the two regions.

The forum also served as a space for students from ASEAN countries and South Korea to interact and discuss their roles in sustainable tourism development. Many young people expressed their desire to access international training programs, apply digital technology, preserve local culture, and contribute to green development.
Within the framework of the forum, thematic discussion sessions focused on many practical issues such as: air connectivity, visa policies, ensuring tourist security, digitalization of services, and training of young human resources.
Former ASEAN Secretary-General, Mr. Le Luong Minh, stated: "Tourism is not just about numbers, but a cultural bridge and a driving force for development. Education will be the foundation for forming a capable successor generation to promote regional cohesion."
The program receives funding from the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA) Fund.
