The information was given by Mr. Tong Viet Thanh, Deputy Head of the Solid Waste Management Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment, at a press conference providing information on socio -economic issues in Ho Chi Minh City, organized by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the City Party Committee, Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of December 4.

According to Mr. Tong Viet Thanh, from December 1, 2025, Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex will change its garbage receiving hours, specifically only accepting vehicles from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning. This will directly impact the city's garbage collection and transportation process.
Before this time, Ho Chi Minh City distributed garbage to two main areas: the Northwest Complex and Da Phuoc area. Da Phuoc area alone received about 4,550 tons/day (equivalent to 443 truck trips), divided into two shifts: Day shift about 1,800 tons (175 truck trips) and night shift about 2,750 tons. The fact that Da Phuoc area stopped receiving garbage during the day forced the 1,800 tons of garbage of this shift to be recalculated for treatment.
Mr. Tong Viet Thanh said that because the distance from the center to Da Phuoc is shorter than to the Northwest, the priority solution is still to arrange and temporarily store the garbage to transfer the volume of garbage to transport at night to Da Phuoc to optimize costs.
However, to avoid the situation of garbage congestion in some areas that cannot be stored for a long time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has consulted and received approval from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to transfer about 450 tons of garbage/day (out of a total of 1,800 tons of the previous daily shift) to the Northwest Complex for treatment.

“To implement this plan, collection units must increase their vehicles. Due to the change in route and longer travel distance, the Department is coordinating with the City Police and the Department of Construction to complete licensing procedures, ensure vehicles run on the correct route, comply with traffic laws, and resolve any financial issues arising for the transport unit,” said Mr. Tong Viet Thanh.
Faced with concerns that transporting garbage long distances to the Northwest Complex could cause wastewater leaks and spread bad odors, Mr. Tong Viet Thanh affirmed that the current technical process is very strict.
Transport vehicles are required to be sprayed with disinfectant and cleaned before entering the landfill and after dumping waste to ensure that no waste or leachate is spilled onto the road. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has also assigned the monitoring unit to strictly check drivers' compliance with this procedure, ensuring that vehicles follow the correct route and stop and park properly.
