2024 is drawing to a close. Over the past year, Vietnam in general, and Quang Ninh in particular, have faced numerous difficulties and challenges, especially the North which suffered severe damage from Typhoon No. 3. However, socio -economic achievements have been positive. A highlight is the growth of the tourism industry, with a significant increase in the number of visitors to various destinations.

According to statistics from the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the total number of international visitors in the past 11 months reached over 15.8 million, an increase of 41% compared to the same period in 2023, with total revenue from tourism estimated at approximately 758 trillion VND. Of this total, the number of international tourists visiting Vietnam in November 2024 reached over 1.7 million, an increase of 20.5% compared to October 2024 and a 38.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023. November saw the highest increase in international visitors to Vietnam so far this year.

Visitors from Asia accounted for nearly 80% of the total international visitors to Vietnam, with over 12.6 million arrivals. The largest international visitor markets included South Korea, China, Japan, the United States, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand. Notably, South Korea was the largest market with 4.13 million arrivals, a 128.3% increase compared to the same period last year, followed by China with 3.3 million arrivals, a 222% increase.

Vietnam's tourism industry is striving to achieve its target of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors in 2024. Currently, it is the peak season for international tourism, and destinations are working hard to develop new products, diversify experiences, improve service quality, and boost promotion and marketing efforts to attract more tourists to Vietnam.

Despite suffering significant damage from Typhoon No. 3, Quang Ninh's tourism industry has made efforts to overcome the consequences, quickly recover, and maintain growth. Many events have been organized, and promotional activities to showcase the province's image and tourism environment have been intensified. Notable examples include: hosting the Clipper Race 2023-2024 round-the-world sailing race in Quang Ninh; the Ha Long Carnival 2024; participating in the EATOF General Assembly in Mongolia; and the Vietnam Festival in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. In addition, Quang Ninh has hosted numerous major national and international events and activities such as Superfest Halong, the Asian Police Taekwondo Championship, the National Vocational Education Teachers' Conference, the VnExpress Marathon Amazing Halong, and the Miss Vietnam Student Finals.

With its spectacular and majestic natural landscapes, diverse experiences, and numerous attractive events and activities throughout the year, Quang Ninh is expected to attract over 19 million tourists in 2024, a 20% increase compared to the same period, reaching 100% of the growth target, including an estimated 3.5 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 46,460 billion, a 38% increase compared to the same period. In 2024, the top 10 international tourist markets to Quang Ninh remain stable: China, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, India, France, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. Notably, the Indian market is showing significant growth with tours from billionaires, large companies, and corporations.

Implementing Resolution No. 31-NQ/TU dated December 2, 2024, of the Provincial Party Committee on the direction and tasks for 2025, with the theme for the year identified as "Breakthrough in economic development, creating momentum for the new term," Quang Ninh strives to welcome 20 million tourists in 2025, including 4.5 million international visitors.

To resolutely achieve this goal, the province is implementing the Project to Develop Quang Ninh into a tourism center connecting with the region and internationally by 2030, with a vision to 2045; organizing the development of products and markets, connecting tours, routes, and tourist destinations between localities within the province, within the region, and inter-regionally; and maximizing the new advantages from the strategic transportation system. Along with this, it is promoting investment attraction for tourism and service projects, developing golf courses according to the plan; building key tourism centers in Ha Long, Cam Pha, Van Don, Mong Cai, Uong Bi, and Co To; innovating and improving the quality and competitiveness of existing tourism products and services to increase spending, revenue, and the economic efficiency of tourism. It is also strengthening tourism promotion and marketing efforts; and maximizing opportunities in both domestic and international tourist markets. Connecting and developing flights through Van Don International Airport and sea-based tourism routes. Diversifying tourism forms and products, improving the quality and competitiveness of tourism services, especially high-end resort tourism, island and beach tourism, Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, community tourism, cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism, etc., so that Quang Ninh truly becomes an attractive destination year-round.
