On July 10th, the Hanoi Moi newspaper organized a seminar titled "Joining Hands to Combat Counterfeit and Substandard Goods to Protect Consumer Health," with the participation of representatives from the Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ), the Hanoi Market Management Department, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (Hanoi Department of Health), and many businesses in the pharmaceutical and food industries. The program discussed the current situation of counterfeit and substandard goods and misleading advertising, which seriously affect consumers and legitimate businesses.

The seminar was attended by representatives of many state management agencies and enterprises in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Mr. Ta Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Drug Administration Department, said that in the past period, the Ministry of Health has organized 15 surprise inspections at various establishments, discovering many violations in the field of functional foods and traditional medicines. The Drug Administration Department has actively advised the Ministry of Health to strengthen control over business activities at small pharmacies and wholesale systems to prevent complicity in the sale of medicines and functional foods that do not comply with regulations. He called on relevant sectors and the People's Committees of wards and communes to strengthen inspection work, and for the press to promote propaganda and create a movement for people to participate in reporting the sale of counterfeit medicines and functional foods.

Tam Binh Pharmaceuticals: Don't be afraid of competition, the most fearful thing is unfair competition

Speaking at the seminar, Master Nguyen Minh Hoang - Deputy General Director of Tam Binh Pharmaceutical Company gave frank opinions from the perspective of a genuine pharmaceutical enterprise that is being affected by the situation of counterfeit and poor quality goods.

He pointed out the alarming current situation where many businesses register products indiscriminately, engage in substandard manufacturing without quality control, and make misleading and exaggerated claims about product effectiveness to attract consumers, leading to a chaotic market where genuine and counterfeit products are mixed together. He emphasized that in a specialized industry like pharmaceuticals, which directly relates to human health and life, counterfeit and fake products not only harm users but also deprive them of the opportunity to receive treatment and access quality products.

When these products fail to deliver the expected results, or when cases of counterfeit or substandard goods are exposed, consumers lose faith in the entire industry. Reputable businesses are also equated with substandard products, diminishing market value and hindering the sustainable development of the pharmaceutical industry.

“We are not afraid to compete with other units that share the same determination to bring the best products to consumers. The most worrying thing is when we work honestly but have to compete with dishonest units,” he emphasized.

Master Nguyen Minh Hoang - Deputy General Director of Tam Binh Pharmaceutical Company shared at the seminar.

Mr. Hoang affirmed that Tam Binh Pharmaceutical is committed to working alongside relevant authorities, legitimate businesses, and consumers in the "battle" against counterfeit and substandard goods. The Deputy General Director of Tam Binh Pharmaceutical expects that in the future, the implementation of new regulations will create a fairer market, with businesses competing healthily to improve product quality and provide consumers with the best products.

Tam Binh Pharmaceuticals is committed to working alongside authorities, legitimate businesses, and consumers in the fight against counterfeit and substandard goods. The company has been cooperating with regulatory agencies in inspection and monitoring activities, while also continuing to promote communication and guide consumers on how to identify genuine products, contributing to building a transparent, safe, and sustainable pharmaceutical market.

As a reputable pharmaceutical brand, Mr. Hoang stated that Tam Binh Pharmaceutical has implemented many comprehensive measures to protect consumer rights. The company has invested in building a GMP-certified traditional medicine manufacturing plant and a GACP-WHO-certified medicinal herb cultivation area. All Tam Binh products undergo a rigorous quality control process and are only released to the market after being licensed for circulation by the Ministry of Health.

In particular, all of Tam Binh's products are stamped with anti-counterfeiting labels. The company's distribution system is strictly controlled to prevent counterfeit products from circulating in the market. At the same time, Tam Binh actively communicates on its website and fanpage to provide information that helps consumers easily distinguish between genuine and fake products.

These consistent actions demonstrate Tam Binh’s responsibility to the health of its customers and the community. It is also the way the business protects its brand reputation and maintains lasting trust with consumers.

What should consumers do to choose quality products?

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Duong Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Market Management Department, said that most of those producing counterfeit and substandard goods usually organize production in remote areas, border regions between provinces and cities... Many of them take advantage of modern technology, e-commerce, and social media to conceal their violations, making investigation and verification difficult.

According to Mr. Hung, in the context of increasingly sophisticated violations, people need to become smart consumers, choosing reputable websites, buying genuine products, and carefully reviewing reviews, feedback, and comments from other users about the quality of the product before deciding to buy.

According to Mr. Duong Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Market Management Department, people should prioritize buying genuine products and reputable brands.

"Following the directives of General Secretary To Lam and concretizing the city's policy, we will wage an even more fierce war against counterfeit goods, determined to do our best to protect the legitimate rights and interests of honest businesses as well as protect the health of consumers," Mr. Duong Manh Hung emphasized.

Counterfeit and substandard products are a serious problem, but consumers shouldn't be overly fearful or hesitant to use pharmaceutical products. The important thing is to choose products with clear origins, licensed for circulation by the authorities, and to trust reputable brands. When authorities take decisive action, legitimate businesses like Tam Binh Pharmaceutical maintain their commitment to "doing things right," and consumers place their trust in the right places, the pharmaceutical market will gradually be purified, developing in a healthier and more transparent manner.
