Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hassan Omar said: Conflict and political instability in Sudan in recent years have disrupted learning, many schools have been destroyed. Illiteracy rates are high, especially among women and in rural areas.
Currently, with the help of governments and international organizations, Sudan is working to improve access to education , strengthen education for girls, and restore the school system after the war; expand higher education, especially in science, engineering and medicine, to meet the country's development needs.
Expressing admiration for the achievements that Vietnam has made in 80 years of building and developing the country, especially in the field of education and training, Mr. Hassan Omar proposed promoting exchanges and learning about the education and training systems of the two countries, and exchanging scholarship programs between the two countries.

In 2016, the two sides completed the draft memorandum of understanding on cooperation in higher education and scientific research between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Sudan, however, due to objective conditions, the negotiations have not been completed. Therefore, the Sudanese side proposed to resume the negotiation of the memorandum of understanding so that it can be signed as soon as possible.
Welcoming Ambassador Hassan Omar to work at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc shared: Vietnam wants to initiate student exchanges and scholarships between the two governments. On that basis, the two countries will develop stronger cooperation in education and training in the coming time.
The Ministry of Education and Training hopes that the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in higher education and scientific research between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Sudan will be signed soon, helping students from both countries to have more exchanges and learn more about each other's cultures. After completing their studies, the students will return to their home countries and become ambassadors, bridges for cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
