The Gia Lai City Trail 2024 – Dream of the Great Forest race is organized by the People's Committee of Pleiku City in coordination with the People's Committee of Chu Pah District, VietRace 365 Joint Stock Company, and Gia Lai Marathon Club. More than 6,800 athletes from 53 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 30 foreign athletes from 11 countries, including the UK, USA, Netherlands, China, Japan, and Belgium, participated in the race.
The athletes were delighted by the abundance of yellow wildflowers lining both sides of the road.
Athletes competed in five distances: 2 km (for children under 10 years old, held on November 16th), 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km, with running routes located in Pleiku City and Chu Pah District.
The race was held during the most beautiful time of year in the Central Highlands. The route passed through the scenic spots of Gia Lai province, with both sides of the road filled with the golden color of wild sunflowers.
In the men's 42km race, Gia Lai's Ha Quang Thang led with a time of 3 hours and 3 minutes. In the women's 42km race, Gia Lai's Nguyen Thi Duyen finished first with a time of 3 hours and 36 minutes. Gia Lai's Nguyen Thanh Dat completed the 21km race in just 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 22 seconds. Meanwhile, in the men's 5km race, members of the Dak Lak athletics team dominated the top positions with names like Nguyen Van Viet Hung, Hoang Van Hung, and Le Hoang Phi…
The road runs through the scenic spots and landmarks of Gia Lai province.
Mr. Doan Huu Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Pleiku City, said: “The race is one of the largest-scale cultural and sports events ever held in Pleiku City and Gia Lai province. It is also an opportunity for Pleiku City, as well as other localities and businesses, to introduce and promote the cultural values of the Central Highlands, spreading the message to friends and tourists about Pleiku – a green plateau for health, focusing on green tourism development linked to sports activities and preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation…”
After the race, the Organizing Committee and the Gia Lai Marathon Club will allocate a portion of the funds and also call for sponsors for the "Warm Clothes for Children" and "Lighting Up Village Roads" programs for underprivileged children and people in Pleiku City and Chu Pah District.
