The vibrant red bougainvillea in front of the house, the garden full of fruit trees in all seasons, the joyful laughter of the elderly and children... All of these create a peaceful and lively picture of the livable countryside in Ky Hoa commune (Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province).
Ky Hoa is a commune located in the northwest of Ky Anh town, with 1,650 households and over 6,000 inhabitants; the main occupation is agriculture and forestry; the average per capita income is over 47 million VND/person/year. In 2018, the commune achieved the New Rural Area standard, then embarked on building an advanced New Rural Area and has now completed 19 out of 20 criteria.
The "New Rural Development Revolution" has not only changed the appearance and infrastructure but also the mindset of the people. Instead of the concrete structures that create "closed gates and high walls" to build new rural areas, in many villages of Ky Hoa commune, people have cleverly "built" green fences using tea plants...
Mr. Pham Vu Quang, from Hoa Thang village, Ky Hoa commune, shared: "I planted this hedge when Ky Hoa commune started building new rural areas (in 2016) to replace the concrete fence, both to create a beautiful landscape and to regulate the air. For me, building a hedge with greenery not only enhances the beauty of my house but also contributes to creating a unique feature in building new rural areas in the locality..."
Mr. Nguyen Tien Ha, from Hoa Thang village, Ky Hoa commune, shared: "My family's garden was recognized as a model garden at the town level in 2020. Currently, the garden has more than 100 pomelo trees, nearly 50 lychee trees, and many other fruit trees... The New Rural Development program has helped me, as well as many other people, change our mindset about developing household garden economies and together build a livable countryside..."

Ky Hoa is focusing on completing the remaining criteria and building new rural areas in a way that is linked to the development of urban civilization. This includes improving the quality of model new rural residential areas, replicating model gardens; paying attention to education, culture, political stability, social security and order, the environment, and increasing people's income.
