On the evening of March 19, Hai Khe Commune Police (Hai Lang, Quang Tri) confirmed that they had just received 1 gold bar (two rings, each weighing 5 taels) that a local resident had picked up and brought to return to the owner.

"The commune police are verifying the exact owner of the gold to complete the procedures to return the property," said the leader of Hai Khe commune police.

Two days earlier, a resident named Truong Van Sung - 34 years old, residing in Tham Khe village, Hai Khe commune - posted on social media that he had dropped a gold bar while watching a boat race at the tea lake area, Hai Lang town.

Mr. Sung said that on the morning of March 17, the couple borrowed 1 tael of gold from their uncle, planning to take it to a gold shop in Hai Lang town to sell to contribute capital to their business.

However, when the couple arrived in town, it was still too early, the gold shop was not open yet, so the couple put it in their pockets and went to the lakeside area in town to watch the boat race to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Hai Lang district.

"After a while, I discovered that the gold bar in my pocket was missing. I immediately ran to look for it and posted the information online, hoping that someone would find it and return it," Mr. Sung said.

Luckily, this afternoon, Hai Khe Commune Police contacted Mr. Sung's house to verify the information about the lost gold to complete the return procedure.

According to Hai Khe Commune Police, the person who picked up the gold was a 4th grade student at Hai Khe Primary School.

"If the incident is verified, we will recommend that the school award a certificate of merit to this student," said Hai Khe Commune Police.
