According to the Department of Construction, the National Highway 51 section passing through Dong Nai province is 37.4km long, starting at Km0+000 - Vung Tau intersection, ending at Km37+402 - in Phuoc Thai commune (bordering Ho Chi Minh City). The existing road surface is asphalt concrete, with an average width of 31.4m. The section of the route has been taken over by the Department of Construction from Road Management Area IV - Vietnam Road Administration, since July 1, 2025. At the time of handover, the current status of the route is high traffic density, with a large number of heavy-duty vehicles circulating; the condition of the roadbed and surface is degraded and damaged along the entire route.

Since taking over the management and maintenance of the route, the Department of Construction has urgently reviewed and developed a maintenance plan, and submitted it to the Provincial People's Committee for approval. At the same time, the department has directed the maintenance unit to regularly perform maintenance; patch potholes, repair damaged roadbeds and surfaces; repaint, clean the road surface... However, due to limited regular maintenance budget, high traffic volume, and the rainy season in 2025 due to the impact of storms... this work is only carried out at a maintenance level to ensure the route is basically operational while waiting for the start of repair projects.

To ensure traffic safety on the route, the Department of Construction will continue to maintain and repair in 2025 and 2026. In the immediate future, in December 2025, the repair of severely damaged sections with a length of about 17.4km (Km0 - Km9+200; Km10+200 - Km12+00; Km14+00 - Km16+00 and section Km20+00 - Km24+400) will begin; basically completed to ensure exploitation before Tet. In 2026, the remaining damaged sections of about 20km will be repaired; expected to be implemented in the first quarter (before the rainy season) and completed in the second quarter of 2026.
