Abundant supply
According to the Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Hai Phong , the city after the merger has 3,890 livestock farms, including 2,878 poultry farms with 48,000 households. The city has 12 concentrated livestock farming areas, some of which specialize in raising poultry and egg-laying waterfowl in the communes of Mao Dien, An Phong, Cam Giang, Chan Hung, Kien Hung...
Each year, city farmers can supply the market with about 950 million eggs, not only meeting the city's consumption needs but also supplying many neighboring localities.
Mao Dien Commune has the largest egg-producing farm in the western part of the city. Mr. Dao Huu Thuan, Director of Cam Dong Poultry Egg Cooperative, said that the Cooperative has 4 egg-laying farms, supplying the market with about 30,000 eggs every day. The products are consumed at many wholesale and retail stores in the western part of the city. To carry out large-scale production, the Cooperative invested nearly 20 billion VND to build a semi-automatic, closed-loop barn system...
The egg-laying poultry farming area in Chan Hung commune is famous in the eastern part of the city for the quality of duck eggs that are highly appreciated and favored by consumers. Besides many large farms with tens of thousands of ducks, the commune also has nearly 100 households raising laying ducks with a scale of 500 ducks/household or more.
This area has coastal water and ducks are raised in a semi-industrial manner, so the quality of the eggs is fragrant and delicious. The duck egg products of the waterfowl breeding area of Chan Hung commune are recognized as 3-star OCOP products.

Open consumption direction
Although the supply is large and the quality of eggs in some localities has affirmed its position in the market, according to many breeders, consumption is still difficult, egg prices fluctuate, making some households discouraged.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai in Ngoc Lau village (Cam Giang commune) said that over the past 10 years, her family has regularly maintained raising 20,000 egg-laying chickens. In previous years, raising chickens was profitable because the market was quite stable. However, in recent years, egg prices have fluctuated, with periods of continuous sharp decline, causing farmers to have no profit, even having to compensate for losses to maintain the flock, waiting for the market to stabilize again.
Director of Chieu Vien Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative in Chan Hung Commune, Nguyen Van Chieu, shared that from 2024 until now, most farms, ranches, and poultry egg production households in the locality have faced difficulties because of low egg prices and unstable consumption markets. In 2024, egg prices fell sharply and lasted for a long time, many farming households could not sell their products so they temporarily stopped raising livestock, and some households reduced their flocks. Recently, egg prices have stabilized again, but many farmers have not been able to make up for the losses caused by the low egg prices that lasted throughout 2024...
According to Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Hai Phong Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, the supply of poultry and waterfowl eggs in the city is currently quite abundant. However, producers are not really sensitive to the market, which can easily lead to a situation where supply exceeds demand and products are difficult to consume.
In some localities, small-scale producers have not yet built a brand or OCOP products, so they mainly consume them in traditional markets, and have little opportunity to circulate them in supermarket systems, safe agricultural and food stores... Most livestock farming households have not yet linked up in production to work together to overcome difficulties when egg prices on the market are unstable.
To remove difficulties for poultry and waterfowl breeders, Deputy Director of Hai Phong Agricultural Extension Center Cao Thanh Huyen said: It is necessary to promote the image and brand of quality, safe poultry and waterfowl eggs right in the Hai Phong market, as well as promote trade in neighboring localities.
Connecting cooperatives, livestock farms with supermarkets, distribution chains, restaurants, processing facilities, etc. to form sustainable consumption contracts is essential. In addition, it is necessary to promote the application of digital technology in promotion, traceability, consumption through e-commerce and online sales, aiming to expand the market, increase value and develop sustainably.
