Liverpool have agreed to pay €70 million to activate the release clause, ready to bring RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to Anfield.

If successful, this would be Liverpool's second new signing this summer after acquiring Alexis Mac Allister for €40 million from Brighton. Newcastle had been pursuing the Eastern European star since the beginning of the summer but had to withdraw their interest due to fears of violating Financial Fair Play regulations.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored for RB Leipzig in the German Cup final.

Dominik Szoboszlai's contract with RB Leipzig still has three years remaining, but an optional termination clause allows him to leave if an interested party activates it before midnight on July 1st. Liverpool wanted to negotiate a lower transfer fee with RB Leipzig but were unsuccessful, and the two sides are still negotiating a payment plan in installments.

Szoboszlai is a promising talent at RB Leipzig.

According to British media, Liverpool and Dominik Szoboszlai have agreed on personal terms, and the Hungarian national team captain will await a medical examination to complete the transfer with the "Reds". The 23-year-old midfielder will become Liverpool's third most expensive player, after Darwin Nunez (€100 million) and Virgil van Dijk (€87 million).

Dominik Szoboszlai and the Hungarian national team "tormented" England in the Nations League.

Dominik Szoboszlai was born in Hungary and pursued a career at Liefering before joining RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. He moved to RB Leipzig from the 2021-2022 season, scoring 20 goals in 91 matches and helping the team win the German Cup for two consecutive years.

The 1.86m tall midfielder, who captains the Hungarian national team, has attracted attention from many big clubs since EURO 2020, especially after the Eastern European team thrashed England 4-0 last June in the Nations League group stage. Dominik Szoboszlai has played 32 matches and scored 7 goals for Hungary.

Szoboszlai successfully converted a penalty in the 4-0 victory against England.

European football experts believe Szoboszlai is more than capable of playing in the English Premier League thanks to his skillful individual technique and excellent physical fitness. A natural box-to-box midfielder, Szoboszlai enjoys long-range shots, creating chances and scoring goals, always shouldering the responsibility of leading his team forward. He ranks 10th in terms of shots per game (5.52) across the top 5 European leagues. Szoboszlai also ranked 6th in the Bundesliga Player of the Year poll for the 2022-2023 season.

Liverpool are placing their hopes on a midfield comprised of many new signings.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is working to strengthen Liverpool's midfield after the departures of key players such as Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Fabio Carvalho. Having already signed Alexis MacAllister and with Dominik Szoboszlai close to joining, Liverpool are confident in pursuing Federico Valverde despite Real Madrid demanding a staggering €90 million for the talented Uruguayan midfielder.
