Due to the impact of heavy rains from the evening of May 2nd to May 4th, 2024, accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, and strong winds, many watermelon fields in the harvesting stage in Trieu Do commune, Trieu Phong district, were flooded and severely damaged, causing significant economic losses.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Phan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Trieu Do commune, this year the commune planted about 10 hectares of watermelon, but due to the recent rains, more than 5 hectares were completely destroyed, causing losses of about 700 million VND.

After being flooded, the current sunny weather has caused many crops to wither, fruits to burst, rot, and many unripe fruits have to be discarded. The People's Committee of the commune has directed people to urgently harvest the good, undamaged melons to minimize losses, and at the same time, continue preparing the land for the next crop.

Watermelon is known to be one of the main crops grown on the alluvial plains along the Thach Han River in Trieu Do commune, providing a considerable income for the local people every year.
