Ms. Ma Thi Van, a former youth volunteer of Company 915, Team 91, told students of Luong Ngoc Quyen High School about unforgettable memories. |
In the summer of 1972, 102 cadres and members of Company 915 (mostly 17-18 years old, some just turned 16), mostly ethnic minorities: Tay, Nung, San Diu... in districts and cities of Bac Thai province (now Thai Nguyen ) eagerly set out to carry out the task of repairing roads and loading and unloading goods to support the southern battlefield.
During those years, the sweat of the brothers and sisters soaked into every meter of road. The color of their shirts mixed with the dust and smoke of bombs. Those who died in the wars slept peacefully underground, but those who were still alive still turned to each other to continue writing the story of the country, with the camaraderie and the power of patriotism spread through activities.
The Youth Volunteers that year escaped the fierce bombing on the night of December 24, now their hair is gray, each person has a different situation, each person lives in a different area but still always cares for each other. Ms. Dang Thi Ty, Head of the Youth Volunteer Liaison Committee of Company 915, Team 91, is 73 years old this year but is always enthusiastic about activities to share, help and care for comrades with the members of the liaison committee.
Meeting again on a rainy day in July, the members were emotional and happy, sharing about their current lives. Despite many difficulties and living scattered in many localities, the former Youth Volunteers always maintain the spirit of solidarity, carry out the work of comradeship well and actively participate in social activities in their place of residence.
Ms. Dang Thi Ty said: It has been very difficult to maintain the activities of the liaison committee for many years now. In 2023, we had 33 members, but by the end of 2024, there will be only 30 members due to old age and illness. Each year, the liaison committee organizes 6-7 activities with the help of agencies, departments, organizations and individuals.
Some former Youth Volunteers, despite their “rare” age, still participate in labor and find it a joy every day. Ms. Ma Thi Van, 72 years old, is currently working as a janitor at Trung Vuong Secondary School, with an income of 3-5 million VND/month, helping her cover her living expenses and reducing her family’s difficulties.
Ms. Ma Thi Van shared that because her husband is currently a security guard at the school, she works as a janitor there to help him with some chores. They are both old and do not have a pension, so they work hard to earn a living.
Although life was still difficult, when the former Youth Volunteers appeared together in an exchange program held in July, they told the students of Luong Ngoc Quyen High School about unforgettable memories, the rain of bombs that rained down on the sky of Thai Nguyen on Christmas Eve 1972.
Mrs. Ma Thi Van was very happy to be a character - a historical witness, in the story of the students. Memories returning to the time when she was 18-20 years old, Mrs. Van seemed to see herself through the image of the students laughing loudly and with innocent clear eyes.
Not only Ms. Van but also other members such as Mr. and Mrs. Dang Thi Ty, Vu Dinh Y, Mai Thi Vui, Tran Thi Hoai... are also very excited to share with the younger generation stories about their youth during the storm of bombs and bullets.
Through many activities, former Youth Volunteers are working with the young generation of Thai Nguyen to continue writing the story of the country through memories, stories, and daily life energy to contribute to building the homeland and country...
