Following the damage caused by storms and floods in the northern provinces, people in Ho Chi Minh City are joining forces to call for and donate tons of essential supplies to support flood-affected communities.
On the afternoon of September 11th, amidst a persistent drizzle, members of the Saigon Night Volunteer Group busied themselves gathering supplies to transport to the North to support flood-affected communities.
At the collection point on Dinh Dien Street (Ward 3, Tan Binh District), motorbikes lined up carrying donated goods from various places. Ms. Yen (a volunteer) continuously received phone calls about relief supplies.
"Watching videos and images of people in the flooded areas is heartbreaking. Although we can't share all the difficulties, we feel guilty if we don't do anything, so we discussed it and decided to contribute to help them. Here, we accept whatever donations people donate, but we focus on essential supplies, medicine, and life jackets because these are necessary items for people at this time," Ms. Yen shared.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Vuong Truong Thanh – Head of the Saigon Night Volunteer Group – said that the group's fundraising activities started on the morning of September 10th and are expected to continue until the storm and flood situation stabilizes.
According to Mr. Thanh, the group in Ho Chi Minh City has about 5-7 volunteers. After the goods are gathered and transported to the North, the members will assist and coordinate with local authorities to distribute them to the people.

On the first day (September 10th), the group transported 1,400 life jackets and 1.5 tons of dried food to the affected people. In the following days, the group will continue to transport hundreds of life jackets along with essential supplies such as biscuits, candy, medicine, flashlights, milk, etc., to flood victims in northern provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai , and Tuyen Quang.
"The North has suffered heavy damage, with many people losing their lives and property. Seeing the flash floods and landslides, my colleagues and I decided to call for donations. We only hope to help our fellow citizens get through this difficult time," Thành shared.

Putting aside his work, Hoang Tuan Anh, the inventor of the rice ATM machine during the Covid-19 pandemic, along with many of his employees, contacted suppliers to purchase motorboats and life jackets and mobilized people to contribute to support those affected by the storm.
According to Mr. Tuan Anh, on the night of September 10th, he mobilized 15 motorboats and 500 life jackets along with food and supplies to be transported to the North. After being gathered, the vehicles and essential supplies will be used in coordination with the Provincial and City Youth Unions in the North to support the people.
"This time, the natural disaster is severe, so the team will coordinate with local authorities and use motorboats to conduct rescue operations in heavily flooded areas. In addition to rescue efforts, they will also provide food supplies and evacuate isolated residents to safety," Tuan Anh added.

Previously, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City called on and mobilized the people of the city to promote the spirit of solidarity, "mutual support and compassion," and "each heart - a kind gesture," in which each official, civil servant, employee, and soldier of the armed forces contributed from one day's salary to help the people in the North.
On September 10th, the Party Committee, government, and people of Ho Chi Minh City donated 120 billion VND to support those affected by the recent floods.
