As scheduled, on June 14, the 2023 Ninh Thuan Provincial Open Table Tennis Tournament - Ninh Thuan Newspaper Cup officially kicked off, with the draw for the competition groups. This year's tournament is organized on a larger scale, promising an exciting, dramatic and successful season.

The 2023 Ninh Thuan Provincial Open Table Tennis Tournament - Ninh Thuan Newspaper Cup is a traditional tournament held annually on the occasion of the anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, June 21. This year's tournament has more than 120 athletes from 18 clubs and units registered to participate. The registration subjects are expanded, athletes register to participate according to agencies, units and table tennis clubs operating in the province. Athletes compete in 11 competition events: Mixed team tournament; Amateur tournament for cadres, civil servants, public employees, armed forces, including 4 events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed-women doubles; Open amateur tournament, including 4 events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed-women doubles; Advanced tournament includes 2 events: Men's singles and women's singles. This year, in order to raise the level of the tournament, making it more competitive and attractive, the Organizing Committee (OC) agreed to expand the participation of athletes from outside the province (Binh Thuan, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa) in 2 categories: Mixed and Advanced. Through the registration list, the tournament gathered most of the highest level players in the table tennis world in the province, so it was assessed to have good professional quality, high competitiveness, enthusiastic and noble competitive spirit. The Organizing Committee has also urgently completed all aspects of the work, such as: Preparing facilities, referees, ensuring security, medical care ... during the tournament.

Mr. Vo Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, said: The Organizing Committee's expansion of new competition events, especially in the mixed team event (previously men's team event) will make the tournament more attractive and open, attracting athletes to participate. Athletes registered at the Club will be able to compete in more events, with higher professional quality, higher competitiveness, and more attractiveness. A clear proof is that in the competition events, the number of athletes registered has increased significantly compared to the previous season. If previously, the men's team event only had 3 to 5 teams participating in the round-robin tournament, this year when it was expanded and switched to the mixed team event, 8 teams signed up to participate in the tournament - a record for the tournament over the competition seasons. This event alone took nearly 2.5 days out of 3 days of competition organization, showing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the tournament. In addition, if in 2022, the appearance of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Team brought many surprises to the tournament; this year, the appearance of a number of new clubs and units such as Duc Dat Club, Provincial Children's House... with a strong squad of athletes will bring surprises to the tournament.

Athlete Gia Hung, Department of Education and Training, shared: With the expansion of the tournament as well as the competition content, this year's tournament promises to have many surprises and drama in each competition content. Mr. Pham Dinh Thao, Thanh Lich Club, said: This is the most prestigious and largest table tennis tournament in the province, so it attracts many excellent players to participate. The tournament is truly a great playground for those who love table tennis, in terms of both the audience and cheering as well as the individuals participating in the tournament. The biggest difference this year is that many famous athletes from state agencies and units have joined table tennis clubs in the province.

The tournament opens at 7:30 a.m. on June 19; closes at 3 p.m. on June 21. During the 3 days of June 19, 20 and 21, athletes will compete in all events. The activities will take place at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center Gymnasium (August 21st Street, Phuoc My Ward, Phan Rang - Thap Cham City).
