The 2023 Ninh Thuan Province Open Table Tennis Tournament - Ninh Thuan Newspaper Cup is a traditional tournament held annually to commemorate Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day on June 21st. This year's tournament attracted over 120 athletes from 18 clubs and organizations. The registration criteria were expanded, allowing athletes to register through agencies, units, and table tennis clubs operating within the province. Athletes competed in 11 events: Mixed Team; Amateur Tournament for officials, civil servants, and armed forces personnel, including 4 events: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles; Open Amateur Tournament, including 4 events: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles; and Advanced Tournament, including 2 events: Men's Singles and Women's Singles. This year, in order to elevate the tournament and make it more competitive and attractive, the Organizing Committee (OC) has agreed to expand participation to athletes from outside the province ( Binh Thuan , Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa) in two categories: Mixed Team and Advanced. Based on the registration list, the tournament has attracted most of the highest-level table tennis players in the province, thus it is considered to have high professional quality, high competitiveness, and enthusiastic and fair play. The OC has also promptly completed all necessary preparations, such as: preparing facilities, referees, ensuring security, and providing medical services during the tournament.

Mr. Vo Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, said: "The Organizing Committee's expansion of new competition events, especially the mixed team event (formerly men's team), will make the tournament more attractive and appealing, drawing more athletes to participate. Athletes registered at clubs will be able to compete in more events, leading to higher professional quality, greater competitiveness, and more excitement. A clear example is the significant increase in the number of registered athletes compared to the previous season. Previously, the men's team competition only had 3 to 5 teams participating in a round-robin format; this year, with the expansion to the mixed team event, there are 8 teams registered – a record for the tournament across all seasons. This event alone took nearly 2.5 days out of the 3-day competition period, demonstrating the competitiveness and attractiveness of the tournament." Furthermore, while the appearance of the Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant Team in 2022 brought many surprises to the tournament, this year, the addition of several new clubs and units such as the Duc Dat Club, the Provincial Children's House, etc., with a strong lineup of athletes, will bring more surprises to the competition.
Athlete Gia Hung from the Department of Education and Training shared: "With the expansion of the tournament and the inclusion of various events, this year's competition promises many surprises and dramatic moments in each event." Mr. Pham Dinh Thao from Thanh Lich Club added: "This is the most prestigious and largest table tennis tournament in the province, attracting many excellent players. The tournament truly is a major playground for table tennis enthusiasts, both in terms of spectators and participants. The biggest difference this year is that many well-known athletes from state agencies and units have joined table tennis clubs in the province."
Alongside the 2023 season, 18 businesses have registered to sponsor the tournament. Mr. Ngo Dinh Quang Phuc, Director of Vietinbank Ninh Thuan, said: "The 2023 Ninh Thuan Province Open Table Tennis Tournament - Ninh Thuan Newspaper Cup is a prestigious traditional sports event of the province. The competition will open at 7:30 AM on June 19th and close at 3:00 PM on June 21st. Over the three days of June 19th, 20th, and 21st, athletes will compete in all events. The activities will take place at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center Gymnasium (21st August Street, Phuoc My Ward, Phan Rang - Thap Cham City).
