According to the report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and the Hyundai Thanh Cong joint venture, 5,404 B-class sedans were sold in September, much higher than the 3,062 units achieved in August.

Toyota Vios continued to lead the segment with 1,842 vehicles delivered to customers in September, an increase of 82.3% compared to the previous month. Accumulated to the end of September, the B-class sedan assembled in Vinh Phuc achieved a total sales volume of 8,812 units, an increase of 17.8% compared to the same period last year.

Honda City rose to the second place in September with 1,590 units, an increase of 277.6% compared to the previous month. In the first 9 months of 2024, Honda City achieved total sales of 6,071 units, down 10% compared to the same period.

Hyundai Accent dropped to third place with only 1,290 units delivered. However, compared to the previous month, sales of the Korean car model still achieved a growth rate of 37.6%. In the first 9 months of 2024, a total of 8,200 Hyundai Accent units were sold, down 29% compared to the same period last year.

The "trio" Toyota Vios, Honda City and Hyundai Accent are still completely dominating the B-class sedan segment. At the same time, all three models exceeded the 1,000-unit mark sold in September 2024, although the cumulative 9 months compared to the same period last year had opposite increases and decreases.

The B-segment sedan segment in the Vietnamese auto market currently has only 8 models. However, Nissan did not announce sales figures for the Almera model.

If the trio Toyota Vios, Honda City and Hyundai separate the top with a huge gap, the remaining 4 models are always in a sluggish state.

Suzuki Ciaz did not sell any cars in September and in the first 9 months, they only sold 28 cars. Kia Soluto grew by 131% compared to the previous month but only finished with 44 cars sold. Mitsubishi Attrage was not much better, selling only 250 cars in September, 17 more than the previous month. Mazda2 sold 380 cars, down 14% compared to the previous month and ranked 4th, right after Hyundai Accent.

The sedan segment is considered to be on the decline. Although the B-segment sedan segment is still chosen by many consumers thanks to its low price range, it is easily accessible to most first-time car buyers or those with moderate financial capacity. However, in the past 2 years, sales of B-segment sedan models have also stagnated and are on a downward trend.

Therefore, the most convincing explanation for the September 2024 acceleration of the B-class sedan segment is that these models enjoy the Government 's policy of supporting 50% of registration fees. In particular, all 3 best-selling models in the segment are currently being assembled domestically and are therefore eligible for benefits under Decree 109/2024/ND-CP, effective from September 1, 2024 to November 30, 2024.
