Quang Ngai: Landslide on hill isolates 5 villages

On October 28, the leader of the Party Committee of Ngoc Linh commune, Quang Ngai province, said that at about 1:00 a.m. on the same day, a loud explosion occurred in the mountainous area of ​​Ngoc Nang village, followed by a serious landslide, sweeping away a part of the hill down to the road of Moi village, cutting off the main traffic route serving the travel of people in 5 villages, causing complete isolation.

The landslide area is large in scale, stretching for kilometers from the first point to the last point, with an average width of 50m to 100m. The volume of rock and soil is estimated at thousands of cubic meters, when the landslide occurred, it buried some of the people's property and crops. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any human casualties.

Currently, the authorities have put up ropes and warning signs, not allowing people to approach the landslide area due to the risk of further collapse. Five isolated villages include Ngoc Nang, Ngoc Lang, Xa Ua, Tu Rang and Mo Po, with about 300 households and nearly 700 people.

Currently, the water level on rivers and streams in Ngoc Linh commune is high, affecting people.

Mr. A Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ngoc Linh Commune, said that the roads to the five villages mentioned above are currently cut off, and the locality is concerned that people may lack food in the coming days. The commune leaders are considering a plan to use reserve funds to buy food, and at the same time, mobilize healthy forces to carry goods across the landslide area to deliver them to isolated households.
