According to the People's Committee of Trung Ly commune, over the past two days there has been heavy rain in the commune, causing the soil and rocks on the hills to become waterlogged and cause landslides down to schools and residential areas.

On August 26, a serious landslide occurred in the mountainous area of Tao village, dragging hundreds of cubic meters of rock and soil down, threatening the safety of the Trung Ly Commune People's Committee headquarters, Trung Ly Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Trung Ly 1 Primary School, Trung Ly Kindergarten and 10 households in Tao village.

Immediately after the landslide, the People's Committee of Trung Ly commune urgently evacuated teachers in the official residence, students at the 3 above-mentioned schools and 10 households in the dangerous area to a safe place.

Trung Ly commune authorities have assigned 24/7 guards to closely monitor the landslide and prevent people from approaching high-risk areas to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

On the afternoon of August 26, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Ngo Thi Lan - principal of Trung Ly 1 Primary School - informed: "The situation of landslides from the hill down, threatening the safety of the school, has been happening for many years, causing damage to some construction items.

The school has reported to the People's Committee of Trung Ly commune to have a plan to move the school to another location, ensuring the safety of students and teachers."

Mr. Nguyen Duy Thuy - principal of Trung Ly Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities - added: "Landslides from the hills behind the school down to the school happen every year during the rainy season.

The flood in late September 2024 caused serious landslides, destroying the boarding houses of students, forcing more than 400 students to move to temporary accommodation for the rest of the 2024-2025 school year.

Preparing to enter the new school year 2025-2026, Trung Ly Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities has 562 students, of which nearly 500 stay in the boarding area, close to the mountainous area with a high risk of landslides.
